  1. Good to hear you can get some that have been sexed. Young males can quicky go from 1st crow to becoming aggresive towards the ladies if another male is also about. I got caught out once, bad news, they can be cruel. After plenty of discussion at the pet shop im pretty sure the breed is Coturnix japonica not chinesis as earlier stated. King is smaller than Jap and not as easy to handle. They shoot up like harrier jump jets!
  2. Hey @bardo, would be happy to post you up some fertile eggs if you want to incubate some when the time comes. Eggs stay fertile for 10days without heat so plenty of time to post.

    N.rustica seeds giveaway (ended)

Hi, have another 5 packs available if anyone's interested. Just post below and pm me and address.
  4. Recently Ive had discussions with a dishwasher tablet company ( Natures Organics who market themselves as environmentally prudent) and was hoping someone with a grasp on the chemistry could advise me before i reply. They individually wrap each tablet with polyvinyl alcohol which they claim is " a type of polymer that is fully water soluble; the component ingredients then being fully biodegradable". I left a wrapper in a glass for a week and noticed no further degradation beyond a silicone coloured liquid suspended in water. So i wondered how do naturally occuring enzymes finish the job? Under what circumstances are they present, ie is the packaging likely to come into contact with these enzymes during its journey. Came across comments from a polymer chemist who says PVA "is water soluable but not sure of the effects on marine life or water based ecological systems" He goes on to suggest there is an issue with "degradation of the aliphatic polymer backbone. No naturally occuring enzymes or bacteria are currently known to be able to degrade this structure". The company claims its 'Earth choice' tabs are individually wrapped because 'they can cause irritation in some people'. Kindness
  5. Such a great and informative reply, thanks @Tripyamine. Appreciate you taking the time to resolve my question.

    Edible/Medicinal culture seeking thread

Easy done @Glaukus. Send me the address.
  7. After a month or so there was no futher degradation in solution. Tried hot water, agitation but after the initial breakdown in water no futher change could be noticed. I wrote to the Csiro polymers devision and asked does the polymer biodegrade but got no answer. Switched to powder for washing but that wasnt the point.
  8. Hi Rhyz, couple of questions. On the vid you selected a mix of type H and type I. What was it about these inoculants that made you identify theyd be beneficial for Acacias? Site doesnt go into much of that detail. And are they suitable for other native species? What application rate did you use? Is it more effective to innoculate after potting?

    What have you learnt?

Hey Joe, no shit id been thinking about such a thread and there one is! Ive learnt that Kindness is a universal currency of sorts. This kindness directed to plants and animals will restore Trust, heal fractures in the mother. Recreate a dreaming. Practically speaking outside the realm of spirit this could materialise into something looking like restoring a carbon balance. Within the realm of spirit plants told me a cactus once told me 'the only difference between us is logic'. I found this quirky at the time but after churning on it i think i get more and more out of the message. Simply that beyond our limited thoughts we are part of the same organism. A vine said were all kissed on the forehead by the spirit of Mother Aya when we were born. This rings deeply for me connection wise atm. Deeping the belonging to Gaia. As terrestrial as that sounds, Acacia showed me that she also is wishing to evolve and mingle with other worlds. With their spirits. Somehow Id previously never considered the spirits of other worlds. I feel part of my role is to facilitate these goals somehow. Gardening is a great start! That i should bring healing, open up communication lines. That i should use my clever little apeman fingers to bring more plant spirits here, weave a new dreaming for future gens. Mine out of life as much kindness as i can whilst I'm/ we're all still here. Im truly humbled and grateful for the direction and inspiration i recieve from plants. Kindness Trust Ps. Also not a psychotic episode

    Quit cigs

Whilst meditating I saw clearly (or clearer than usual) the cycle i was caught up in. Its been about 10 years now, i can only imagine how fucked id be feeling if i hadnt taken that little thread and ran with it. I had given patches a go previously but they just reinforced that i was a smoker trying to give up rather than someone who didnt smoke. Took about 2 months of KBing cravings and associated thoughts for the clouds to part and the sun to come thru.

Certainly has been a funny ole winter down here too WB.
  15. For sure Darklight a bag of feed (game bird layer) is about $18 will last 4-6 months. They wont over eat. No other real expenses. I sometimes give them budgie seed, corn, recently discovered they dont mind a Brussels' sprout. Time wise they dont need much care. Once or twice a week i put a dust bath in for them from the fine matter on the floor of the wood shed. I never tire of watching them throwing dust over themselves and each other. Otherwise i just visit to keep the water shit free. During the last summers bush fires they did about a month with me only visiting them 3 times after id laid out 1/2 a bag of food. The kids use the quail shed as a place to go when theyre upset, they have a lovely way about them that the kids pick up on. The youngest is always pestering me to incubate more but i will wait till spring if indeed i do. Unfortunately if you have more than 1 male, the boys will pick on a girl. They can be very nasty indeed, going the eyes and face. I understand that a hatched egg is more likely to be a male too. So if i do incubate more they will be off to the pet shop prior to sexing. Some have a consistent patterning for females so id be keen to breed from those so i could sex them asap. Normally you can tell by squeezing their delicatates at about 6 weeks i think. Gave some to friends for there poly tunnel but they didnt last long before they got a terminal case of cat. Fort knox for sure DL.
  16. Its mid Tassie winter (min -4c some nights) and these beaut little birds are still laying! Often Im getting 6 or 7 eggs per day from just 4 ladies. Last month i had some young datura plants with aphid problems. I put a plant in with them and within an hour all the aphids were pecked off. Sensing success i put the rest of the affected plants in and they ate them wholus-bolus. I thought fuk ive poisoned them!! But they actually seemed better for it. I mused that perhaps they like a little something to moderate stomach parasites ect from time to time. They are always very curious about anything new in their world.

    Noob's cacti

Looks like youve got plenty of grass yet to cover Ethnoob. Awesome collection sir.
  18. Hi Sagi, shame you havent had a reply but am glad to read your having success. I admit im not much of an expert on A.acuminata although i am trying to raise some in a cool climate. Seems from my 1st season Xp, seedlings and young saplings can get knocked about by cold and more so, frost. In saying that I probably have the worst frosts in Aust here. Perhaps when they are a bit further off the ground theyll fair better but my gut feeling is cold will be an issue for them in the future. What i have noticed from mine (and please correct me if otherwise) is that they tend to etiolate out of full sun and seedlings dont enjoy being constantly wet. I guess your past that point by now. As mentioned in another thread A.floribunda dont seem to be affected by severe frost and cold. Kindness

Maybe an electric infuser if you're not already using one. I prefer the waterless ones. They dont generate as much heat, safe, cheap to run.
