Digital Mozart - Music Producers Thread

Somewhere for the muso types to compare length, breadth and accoutrements. I've been playing various guitars for about 19 years now and teaching for a few years for some extra cash or barter. Started writing with ableton about 3 years ago, have a few songs in my mastering pipeline which I'll have to get my ass into gear to finish so they can be degraded by the harsh light of public scrutiny. Equipment wise I am currently playing a ovangkal baden a-style acoustic, yamaha ae500 semiacoustic, a yidaki, halfway through constructing a diddley-bo, cigar stompbox and lagerphone. I use a novation launchpad and touchosc<<<huge recommend, particularly with apple devices as the android version is stupidly limited, will save you an almost infinite amount of cash<<< for my electronic production through ableton with m4l, roland ua25ex to handle my in'n'out and some AKG K271MkII cans. Wishlist is for some nice monitor speakers to annoy my neighbours/missus with, something with keys probs from Akai, arduino for heightened pretentiousness, a bass guitar as it's been years since I've owned one and an income so I can pay for the software that i currently 'demo'. I'm trying to get a bit more experience mastering various genres atm so if anyone has a tune they want to spice up let me know, I'll be happy to work on it for a small trade or donation, i'll upload a before and after soon to show what I can do. Marcel your a dark mofo, push through and you'll have some quality compositions (or be mo' po-mo and release a whole album of minute long intros called "Marcel's Minutes")

Not long now till se QLD Cube season!!!

If anyone (who isn't a first-timer) wants some company and a few extra hands, or even just some extra targets for the farmers to shoot at (safety in numbers), on a bit of a drive around give me a PM as me missus and I are keen fungi watchers limited by the range of public transport. Happy to contribute to fuel and conversation or whathaveyou and we are ready to go at the drop of a spore. We're on the east side of BrisVeg but can meet anywhere in the vicinity of the aforementioned public transport system. Namaste FCL

    Ultimate Pallet Furniture Collection

I use wooden pallets as a bed base, wooden fruit boxes for a bed head and shelves and the likes. Bus drivers hate it when you jump on with four of the buggers though. Screw paying a few hundred or more for shitty wood furniture from Ikea or the likes though. Namaste, FCL

    Alternative commercial crops?

Don't know much about its climate requirements apart from that it grows in the Amazon, but have you considered Acai palms? There is already a well established international market that as far as I know relies entirely on import from South America. This results in only dried or powdered product being available in Australia. It's cost has skyrocketed since it has been declared a 'superfood' and there is high demand in the weight loss market (I don't think overindulgence is going to disappear voluntarily). On the flip side though the income from Acai supports a number of tribes, whilst at the same time they are being grossly underpaid for their efforts considering the massive profits being made. Maybe Cacao? Huge market, diminishing supply due to droughts in Africa. Once again the possibility to take the little bread left from the already starving. Some native crops are increasing in popularity, Davidson's plum and the likes. Use some space to make high quality compost, combine food scraps with high carbon materials (all free to obtain) mix it together and let it rot, turn every so often, bag and repeat. Or fuck it all, plant a native forest and convince the Gov or a big biz to buy it's carbon offset potential on a fixed term contract (maybe 5-10 years), whilst creating some green tourism style things to make some extra cash. WA gets tougher on dope

Well who is sending Mr Johnson an email telling him how unhappy you are with him pushing new laws on old, refuted science? No use preaching to the choir. Lib or ALP have such minor differences in reality these days it seems almost pointless to blame one or the other, I'm under a ALP state gov and they are thoroughly shit. Australia's politics is in a fucked place so everyone is doing 'feats of strength' to impress the constituents. Show them you are unimpressed and perhaps they will leave it alone. If everyone who has posted here sends an email aswell, you will be doing something, not just whining. While your at it, send one to both sides of your locals saying if they support harsh punishments for drug offences, they've lost your support. Make a difference. "We are declaring war on drugs and this is just the beginning," Police Minister Rob Johnson Deemed the most costly mistake America ever made "Just ask any parent whose son or daughter's use of cannabis led to an addiction to harder drugs or caused serious health or mental health problems such as schizophrenia" Not only is there no science, cannabis is shown as a great medicament for many mental health issues. "They will tell you that illicit drugs have ripped their family apart and ruined many lives. We owe it to our children to do everything we can to protect their future, which is why this Government makes no apologies for its tough approach on drugs." And they will tell you that since being imprisoned their health afflicted child has been a slave to crime, mental illness and recurring imprisonment. We do owe the children not to be made criminals due to a health issue because some polie wants reelection. Police Commissioner Karl O'Callaghan said he welcomed "any law reforms that will help combat the scourge of this insidious criminal industry in WA". Like legalization or non-criminal regulation? Here's the email, speak your mind, maybe you can make him feel embarrassed for being half a man and less of a polie. [email protected] Cheers FCL

    Australian Shamanic Bushland Adventure

I'm interested in shamanism, though finding local information on it is very difficult. The stories of the Native communities are considered quite sacred still and rarely properly shared with the 'white fella' or even other groups. Quite rightly IMHO as we did effectively fuck them over with little remorse, and I don't think Krudds hollow apology counted for much, better to not apologies if you don't mean it then to lie to people who are already hurting. I recall a story of a woman (think she was a journalist/maybe photographer or some shit) who was trying to get the 'inside story' of a community up north ??I think?? Didn't make much ground until she used Reiki to assist someone who was sick, only to discover that the practice of energy healing using the hands was used by the community elder/healer. He asked for her assistance as he was overwhelmed with the numbers of people he was treating, in return she was accepted into the community. She released some information that as far as I know is new, such as the Reiki thing, however I would be suprised if she betrayed any true 'secrets'. It does reestablish some old stories of Dutch sailors who ended up overboard being accepted into WA aboriginal groups before the English arrived, so perhaps if you can demonstrate your worth to the traditional owners of your area they may entrust you with some gems. Plants in my area that were used for healing though I cant remember what for atm, is Pigface, beach morning glory, pandanus, scurvy weed, lemon myrtle, ti tree. Pituri around Brisbane is supposed to be good also, Dubosia hopwoodii. As Brisbane is rapidly expanding and weeds are rampant it would most likely be better to avoid harvesting anything from the wild, often things can be found in nurseries online and such. Treatment methods often relied on putting things like Ti-tree leaves on a fire and bathing in the smoke, similiar to smudging, plus poulstices and succus, or even just chewing leaves or folding lemon myrtle leaves and sticking them in your nose (though i can imagine some fella cracking up having convinced the whites to do it "stupid fuckers stuck it up their nose") Having said all that I'm also down with some Brisbane shamanic time with some like minded people, I'm fully attuned in Kundalini reiki, so I can bring that to the experience, got an awesome didj a friend made me from some trees in the top end aswell (none of that blue indonesian crap). Let me know if something gets organized. Namaste FCL

Vege's you should never have to buy

Don't know your climate zone and have no experience growing in areas with frost so I'm essentially 'speaking out my ass' but berries sound like a good option, Tino on gardening australia did a segment about pruning and training them that'll probably be available on their website, heavy producing, extravagant price at market. If it's for yourself maybe try and find someone who still holds some knowledge of native foods in your region and see if they'll help you out. Another possibility could be edible bamboo, rhizomes can grow through practically anything given enough time and they have a million uses. To contribute to the topic, atm I grow all my own beans and peas, asian greens, macadamia, banana, herbs, lemon myrtle, vietnamese mint, nasturtium, sweet potato, lettuce, lemon and limes, spring onion, chives. Trying out Kohl rabi this winter aswell Normally I would have tomato, chili, pumpkin, corn, chard, strawberry, cucumber but a combination of living in an expensive neighbourhood where everyone builds massive houses that take up practically their whole blocks surrounded by nutrient sapping 'easy care' trees who's roots I constantly find sneaking into my vegie beds and who's ridiculously large canopies overhang my gardening eliminating practically all of my winter light and high amounts of lime from dumped mortar killed off a lot of what was planted (I feel slightly better post rant). I think their karma has arrived now though, they haven't been able to rent the massive overpriced house next to me for over two months, probably because no-one wants to spend so much for the right to live next to a scary dreadlocked couple who are constantly ranting loudly about how "they" are against us and civilisation is doomed (cackles loudly for an uncomfortable length of time). Gardening Australia shits on Better Homes & Gardens, and BHG are too retarded to realise that shit would make primo fertilizer. I miss Peter Cundall, when it comes to poo, that man loves it. Lycium Chinense - Goji Troubles

G'day I recieved my Lycium chinense plant mid 2009 from SAB, went into a self watering hanging basket which I had set up as a wicking hydroponic dealy in close to full-sun, good vegetative growth as expected for half a year until I forgot to check the nutrients and disappeared into the bush for half a week, came back to a seemingly dead plant. Cut it rght back to rootstock, gave it a quarter strength feed, two weeks later it was back. Moved house, moved the goji into a bigger pot filled with nice forgiving soil, left it outside with my other plants. It continues to grow well, but cannot seem to hold onto its leaves weather it's in hydro or soil, only lightly flowers, does not seem to get polinated. In the ground now and same problem. U'dTFSE, many people seem to be having similar results, not many answers. The plant has lived all around Brisvegas but has currently settled in the ground at the back of my coastal rental where it gets about 8 hrs sun a day, a new datura grows quickly and happilly about a meter away. Gets regular Seasol, has a nice thick layer of seaweed mulch that was washed thoroughly, recently received some compost, gets slow release fert every few months, etc. so isn't neglected, however it hasn't been pruned and probably doesn't feel much stress these days. Will upload photos if anyone thinks it will be beneficial. So on to the questions... Who has had success with lycium? Where/why and of course how? Where did you acquire your seeds? What moves your pollen? What feeds on your plants? Any good companions? What are some known/suspected hindrances to happy Goji funtime? Any information that is relevant or even excessively askew will be appreciated as Google only seems to provide large quantities of the same shit and it seriously stinks. Namaste FCL

  17. Echinacea Study shows a neutrophil increase, and woman I know swear by the yoghurt, but make sure it is definately active, claims of live culture are often fake and I recall a US study that I can't find now that claimed the cheapest brand on their shelves had the highest concentration of live cultures whilst expensive brands including Vaalia (i think) were practically entirely dead, but the best bet would be to go see a Naturopath or even Homeopath. Sometimes it is hard to show scientific evidence for the use of herbs and it can often be contradictory (there is difficulties in creating an experimental environment whilst dealing with herbs or extracts as concentrations of substances vary heavily, many experiments are done by very biased individuals and are as poorly designed as the early cannabis experiments) however natural remedies are getting more and more popular and I can't believe most people are to stupid to know if they feel 'better' or 'worse' (though sometimes my faith is questioned). I agree that the chinese herbalist sounds shit house, the industry can be sadly unregulated at times and some people only see their fellow humans as an income source, hopefully people like that suffer the conditions they unscrupulously treated 100 fold. If money is tight as is often the case try natural medicine colleges, they often have clinics with very experienced practitioners, their just might be some curious kid in training sitting in the corner. If this is your plan I would recommend Australian College of Natural Med, I am studying naturopathy through them in Bris so I am 100% biased, however many (but not all) of the lecturers and people I meet there are very intelligent and have superb energy, big change when your used to going to some dick med who thinks your just some drugged up retard for having an opinion about how your illness should be treated. I choose natural remedies as they have evolved with us in most cases and provide an almost perfect cocktail of hundreds/thousands of 'active ingredients' in balanced concentrations naturally, this in my opinion gives a greater healing effect in a softer way to the body. Pharms on the other hand are usually a few large doses of usually less then 10 active ingredients all aimed at changing singular functions of the body in predictable ways, these changes are unbalanced resulting in the wide range of side effects from the treatment. Something like 80% of the pharmaceutical industry is a sad, mentally challenged and crippled version of natural remedies anyway, stripping away anything that they do not believe has an effect on the illness. Don't be put off Traditional Chinese Med because of your experience, but if you encounter someone offering treatments in the future with no explanation of how or why they work, be very skeptical. Holistic practitioners in my experience try to be as transparent as possible as their is a shit storm brewing regarding their practice and it seems they are trying to fortify their message in the community before the pharma companies make a really big push to outlaw any treatment that isn't theirs'. Hope I haven't taken it to far off topic as I have a tendency to rant. Namaste FCL

    Bin Laden dead?

Influenced by the CIA's a-WAR-d winning depiction in "bin Laden, America fights the turban wearing cave dwellers" I'm hijacking this thread, landing it in a secret airforce base, making the innocent passengers evaporate, and flying painted, retired Air Force jets into my own infrastructure. When did the world get so fucked up? Is it a new thing? Is it now only so obvious thanks to the interweb? When did we trade the slightly polished political truth with shiny and pleasing bullturd? Is it time for the cushy white Australia to pull out our energetical morphine drip and do something or do we wait around till we have headlines reading "Aboriginal terrorist Ring destroys Rio TInto Tower using a series of hijacked utes". Seems to me that their may still be a chance to change things in a political way, 10yrs from now, maybe not. Don't know if I'm just young and stupid (never known when to shut my mouth) but when I look at Gillard and Abbott, I see two children bickering over a stuffed toy (in the resemblance of our future). I haven't heard a realistic idea, let alone a good one, come out of either of their mouths yet, neither are suited to leadership. Give me Kevin747 and Jolly Joe Hockey or Turnbull anyday. At least Krudds tactics were interesting (tragically amusing when they failed), Gillard is Rudds old backup singer now trying to run a successful solo career, but had to screw a lot of people to get anywhere. Abbott is the dog Liberals send to tear apart a controversial issue where fear and confusion are the end game, crazier still he won the primary. I can't support the Green's fully as they seem to see everyone in the way Christians see Muslims. Either way at the end of the day we seem to be fucked, Labor is running out of substitutions (Swan's up next, kill me please) Liberal's have traded their character for the dumb and scared vote (where Abbott is Mucho Grande) maybe there just trying to make sane peoples heads explode from trying to connect the dots, then we can take the fight to Eurasia, or was it Eastasia? Oh no, thoughtcrime, doublethink doublethink doublethink........POP. Anyone reached that hypothetical age where shit makes sense or where the intelligence dims to rash confidence for the future? FCL

    Bin Laden dead?

con·spire/kənˈspī(ə)r/Verb 1. Make secret plans jointly to commit an unlawful or harmful act. I think everything, if not close to, said by politicians, business, lobby groups, media, etc meets that definition There could be many reasons to find Mr Osama all of a sudden, War profit margin decreasing, Possible loss of the mass mind control implemented on the world (TV + Fear of everything that isn't wholesome and true), Obama's Ego/Reelection ..... America has a weird thing for Pakistan right now, I'm not convinced it has to do with 'Terrorist Cells', sounds to much like their justification as to why it is okay for Israel to slaughter countless innocent people and cause one of the biggest humanitarian crises in history (sorry to any Israeli's present but I do not condone the political belief and actions of your country, fuck yourself if that makes you angry because I'm angrier). What happened to all those Laden look-a-likes? How can they be so confident when they claim that every video of his that comes out is a fake? How can they not ID him in a video with audio, mannerisms, expression, yet a corpse found post an explosion is so certain? So many questions, in a century it won't matter, history books are never wrong. According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Videos_and_audio_recordings_of_Osama_bin_Laden, it seems he was a prolific speaker about charity and climate change, bet that won't be remembered. This is from today, no bin Laden mention, Drone strikes are counter-productive, says Gilani On a controversial note, if bin Laden is KIA, it is a sad day, this man holds many of the keys that can unravel the complexity of the post 2001 era, and everyone deserves due process. Set the Conspiracy theories free, a cow does not think of steak, but I want to know why I'm being farmed.

    Lycium Chinense - Goji Troubles

Thanks for the info so far, Had a look at it this morning and it seems to be starting another round of branching. Will try some hand pollination next time I see flowers. Might start some cuttings and put them in a few places to see what happens. Also found these PFAF Lycium chinense Daves Garden Lycium chinense Most of the info indicates moist, well drained soil of any type, full sun to dappled shade, pH tolerant (possibly sensitive to acidic soil), wind hardy, suitable for coastal situations (possibly saline), poor soil, frost tolerant, bee pollinated. Main agricultural regions in China are the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (also produces grapes, melons, pears, cotton, wheat and walnuts) and Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region (Goji is the major produce). Nuclear power

I think current nuclear technology is relatively idiotic. As far as I know (which is not incredibly far) it hasn't been progressed much since the 70's. The potential of nuclear power is however great, Breeder reactors and other Fast reactors <google away> not only utilize more energy from the radioactive material, the US has fuel for 1000 years currently buried as "nuclear waste" (claimed on ABC's Big Ideas recently). Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that recycling? Because more energy is captured, there is less waste, supposedly each citizen would generate about a coke can's worth over their lifetime which would return to background radiation levels in about 300 years. Current problems with these reactors are the need for refined radioactive fuels, abundant amount of weapons grade shit at different stages of the process (however I think the guys with the guns now suffer from some terrible mental handicaps), difficulty in temperature regulation (big bada boom) and probably some other shit I forgot. So am I for it...Yes Does it need to be relatively safe compared to todays technology....Of course Should we throw all our eggs in this basket....Hell NO It is finally becoming increasingly obvious to many people that limiting ourselves to singular ideas is a bottleneck to things like our economy, environment, development (scientific, social and personal) and happiness. Nuclear should only be used to fill in the gaps of geothermal, wind, tidal, etc solutions. I am not impressed by solar, particularly solar farming, this world is in a food crisis peoples, Bill Mollison has claimed that a tree is still the most efficient method of harvesting solar energy, and when you considered the expertise and manpower that goes into the manufacture of these panels and the dismal results you get from extravagant costs, not to mention fragility, poor serviceabilty etc. I find it difficult to believe there is any degree of 'sustainability' from panels, probably need to wait till Tesla's reincarnation first. Ranto completo...Angry replies welcome and enjoyed (particlary when theys r bout gramma). Anyone remember Beyond 2000?

    Wattle We Ban Next?

As a relatively simple idea, I walk most places I go (combination of an ecosuperiority complex and lack of funds) and I'm always spotting the happy ethno's growing in yards and what the council believes is a garden (looks more like a pile of woodchips with a few mexican/african/anywhere-but-australian plants protruding). Needless to say a large number of private gardens and council spaces in my area have these plants. Even more interesting my local council has put commemorative plaques around promoting the indigenous culture that they dessimated and there connection to the "Winnam" tree (Pandanus utilis I believe) which is on the list. So if I (and others who relate to this OCD-like behaviour of plant identification) went and slapped a piece of paper on all the soon to be scheduled plants I see when I'm out and about saying something along the lines of "How will you prove that your not producing illicit substances from this plant" or "This plant is soon to be illegal, speak out now" kind of thing (obviously with more info and appropriate details), do the fine members of this space believe this could inspire/scare average joe dick and jane fanny to directly oppose this bullshit? Afterthought: Would this not be one of the first umbrella laws like this they've tried to introduce since this massive rise of social media? Isn't the middle east and africa scary/inspiring atm? Didn't those massive and originally peaceful (at least on the part of the protesters) demonstrations start from facebook and twitter? Wouldn't it be that much scarier to fight for your beliefs in a land where you can trust your guv to shoot you and your family in broad daylight than it would be in a land where we're ruled by a fat-assed dom and her pet swan whose major political abilities are backstabbing and yelling about scare campaigns started by anyone who opposes them? Basically, the question is not is the world fair, only if you will fight for the rights of others. (or maybe I'm just to stupid to keep my head down?)
