UPDATE: *ebay sinica rooted cuttings x2 seem to have taken fine, new sprouts are seen in the base *ebay sinica motherplant replanted is super happy and still showing off new sprouts *seed-grown sinicas are also sprouting from their stem base (I had pruned a bit all them sinicas btw) *gerardianas cant seem to form fruit, even though I seem to be having both sexes *TH equisetina is sprouting from stem, base and there also seems an off-base sprout also *the single viridis is still a small seedling, but it's also growing *ALL species seem active and growing currently PIC1: some of the ebay sinica mother plant new sprouts PIC2,3: typical shape of new growth in my gerardianas PIC4: seed-grown nevadensis PIC5: Almost all my ephedras, excluding the natives foemineas+ cf fragilis

Meangreen its useful to know that officially we dont have fragilis in greece, only foeminea, distachya and nebrodensis. But this plant really resembles what is described as fragilis. Amateur botanists dont seem to think there's a any difference, but I am quite sure they were not looking/interested enough... There also could be that fragilis is an invalid species overall. For what is worth, it would be more appropriate to tag this "foeminea CF fragilis greece" to remember that we are not supposed to have it in greece. I could also send you the regular "foeminea" seed to compare.. Of course seeing how "fragilis" is native in many parts in France and Spain, I would love to gain access to real (spanish) fragilis seed and try to compare them all. Fragilis is also supposed to be native to morocco. ***** IMO the tray would better not dry up completely, especially in the first crucial 15 -18 days, but it depends on the freshness of seed. by 15-20 days after sowing you will know if they are fresh (good / decent germ rate) or bad (little or no germ rate). But as long as the seed is fresh, the soil should not dry up too much. More dry between waterings is required after the sprouting to prevent damping off. There's always chance seeds might be sprouting as late as 60days after sowing, but its basic to figure out the freshness of your seeds. The same I start finding with sinica , it's much easier than thought, you just need fresh seed. Sure its slower, but its not that hard... In one sowing I did, I had 3 sprout at 8 days and none other (seed was old) ... I still have those 3 seedlings and they look pretty fine now...

Opinions on selling the rare Phalaris clones on ebay?

this is very funny, as they look simply as grass (one of the worse weeds here) which makes me wonder what kind of Phalaris (or other) species we got growing locally and how easy it would be to play with idenification. I must have missed something over the years, because last time I checked these were not so wanted, due to toxin content. How is this resolved? any cool links are perhaps better than discussing this here

    B caapi trellis

IME its a pretty hardy plant. it will be very cool growing on a tree. it needs something to lean on... you can always prune so as not to loose the tree.

    Hybridization - influence of parents?

    I am liking this thread
  7. I should have been more analytical... I have thought about meditation and if I need it a lot of times. People tell you that meditation is awesome and that you should benefit.. I keep finding my self thinking and wondering about this... I am pretty sure meditation is something pretty foreign to me.. I very seldom just sit there, doing nothing, just breathing... And I cant really imagine forcing my self to start doing this... I dont really feel I want to change, nor that I want to stop my head from thinking all the time... I actually like my self and my path, what I am is largely a result of my path.. on the other hand I feel it could 'help' in changin some perspective, perhaps in not being so overly cynical as person? this is a gut feeling though but my mind is not thinking the same things over and over... it is just that my mind is very active and almost agressive... but those things i am thinking are pretty interesting and definately not self-harming... they are varied stuff, according to my many interests and persuits... I read recently that the main goal of buddism/ meditation is to stop yourself from having desires... I can understand that in the psychological sense, but to me, not having desires at all seems like a really boring situation... Of course if one is plagued by desire and needs that haven't been met, then I can see the obvious benefit in stopping desire and just letting go... But all in all, I suppose a desire-less state is the end goal that is not going to be archieved, so again its the path that is important .. I will add two more things, which I think are relevant 1. one of the few times I dont have inner talk, is when I go to the forest to pick mushrooms.... when I am with some friend, I like to talk from time to time, and I can be extremely talkative even at the forest... but in general, especially when alone, the inner dialogues stops completely.. this feels like a meditation like state.... but its not relaxed - you are walking in the forest, so the muscles are not relaxed - BUT THE HEAD IS!!! Maybe this is one of the reasons mushrooms picking has always felt so psychologically nurturing to me, not unlike my music making which again I felt has been for over 20 years a psychotherapy for me.... Note I was never diagnosed with anything psychological, and I always thought making music always played a role in me being healthy... 2. a couple years ago, a friend introduced me to I-ching... he had a book.. so I tried it, even though it seemed somewhat stupid to me... I threw the coins thinking my question, and the result was 63, which more or less said "you have almost reached the end, you are one step before competion" and generally presented a situation of a person a couple steps before completion... That description felt right even though I dont remember now the exact question I had in mind, but it was something in regards to me like "why am I like that, why am I that cynic, etc" .... Sure you will say a coincidence, I liked what the text told me... In any case, I still feel like this, and maybe I understand this more now... 3. last years I am realising that indeed I have less and less desires... could it be that I traveled to this through a completely different path? aint cynicism a weapon to this path?

the "ebay sinica" story (repotting and sprouting details + update) .. couple weeks ago I transplanted this plant, after taking 2 rooted cuttings, I also re-aligned one fresh sprout going down ( you know these things are kind of like Haworthias or Aloes) and potted it so as it went up... it was 2-3 days until the sprout indeed came up fast and healthy, but after coupe days, 4 more sprouts also earthed! I am super excited about this, sinica, despite reported to be one of the harder species, seems to like my climate better, say, than gerardiana, at least as far as stressing is concerned... my seed growns are also going fine, both are now putting out new sprouts and dosens of eyes are visible at the base... the fresh cuttings also seem to be going well- I think I am seeing eyes swelling , but they may be swelling for a month or so before sprouting I guess, this is not the easiest cutting to take care... what is encouraging is that the season for all species seems to have come... so its the growing season... all cuttings and transplantings should take place now, this stage, for the roots to have their time to develop and support and encourage vivid growth.. ******** here maybe it should be also noted that I am switching to a richer soil as transplanting.. for both the geradis and the sinicas that went to a bigger pot.. switching from more sandy and draining to my typical plant soil plus perlite "recipee" all species, perhaps also because of being potted, seem to me very happy and growing after the dry greek summer came to an end and the wetter and cooler season came... and all of them seemed pretty stressed from extreme heat , especially in direct sun ( I already have said that I eventually moved them to a shadier spot during the summer and they immediately straightened... ) future plans include planting out a couple fragilis/foeminea plantlets in ~900 m altitude in my own land.. I dont really plan on sowing anything, haven't checked my stock for a while, I dont know what (if) I have something interesting left to sow ephedra wise ... of course I am still and always looking for good fresh viable SEED from any species around the world Also a note - E.chilensis seems to be the real deal in that it seems to be forming a small , almost bonzai like tree- structure... for that it seems like one of the most beautiful and potentially best looking of them all....

please enlighten us what you're talking about thunder, you link is very interesting and consistent with otehr recent findings of hominids other than Homo found in europe .... and you wondered why they called it the old world...

    Origins of Homo sapiens

Insequent> I dont ever feel the need to think black and white, like many scientists and scientifists and people of scientific religiocity .. The inconsistencies in the chronology of the journey from africa to australia can have several explanations - fe. multiple wave of bigger and smaller emigrations.... well I havent yet heard of a reverse journey from australia to africa, I would love to read something about it, even though it doesnt suit the very recent findings from australia and current consensus... You are still not giving any arguements about the non-violent nature of the disappearance of Homo pieces like neanderthal.. any links are again very welcome.... on OOA and the "fuck those fuckers" was refering to people who take the consensus, a well challenged consensus and try to save it, as it it was a religion or an ideology of some kind.. if you are talking genetics, I dont know what use there is for it if someone cant read the genetic data. There are tons of info out there, and thankfully some people explain it to us in a simpler language... I understand the tendency to bring the matter to today, races and current DNA and whatnot, but I am not really interested in this currently- I regard this another kind of subject and I will propably read up on it in the future...... besides, this would need dna tests from the whole human polulation... it would be super, but it is somewhat un-doable... anyways in my understanding all non africans have neanderthal genes, I think white skinned persons and red-haired persons somewhat more africans seem to be pure sapiens denisovan genes exist in lesser degree and it smaller populations... thus a smal percentage of asians have those denisovan markers... nah, I think it up to 4% for neanderthals in non africans and pretty smaller for those who have the denisovan markers, like 0,5 % or something... in any case I dont know how useful it is to talk in that sense of statistical generality

have ever seen droplets on them? yeah I call them fruits - Ι even call chilli peppers fruits sometimes... in any case I hypothesised that since its swelling it was pollinated earler... there was coning activity earlier but the heat fucked it... I havent seen any flower (strobili) on the geras, but today I saw something that is different than female cone, so I might have had one male and 2 females.... (well I split the one female into 3) pretty amazing , I have only seens foeminea fruits and flowers (strobili) in person (recently got a distachya helbetica and minima which did some minimal fruiting from the nursery, but I saw only the end of it) also admit havent checked my archieves about gera infloresence.so I will come back on this...

    Origins of Homo sapiens

please, before getting into books by non scientists, look up what is the wiki consensus... read this article its very exciting if you like this subject... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Early_human_migrations another scheme from google images which reflects the major shift in the field. note that 5 separate hybridisation events are pictured!

    Origins of Homo sapiens

yep I have read about this, or something like this... makes much more sense to me, the taxonomy being - web like and not tree like.... BUT, again I wont pretend to understand genetics... but yeah, my gut tells me that this "no single origin theory" makes much more sense than usual interpretations that assume much more and overstate the ability of man to decide about if a bone fracture finger belongs to this or that or to a new species of homo ... in regards to viruses and DNA it is well known our dna contains some 'fossil viruses' within, I had read something about this, and how the placenta was eventually created in response to some viral interaction with early mammals, but I am not sure and I sure cant phrase it well... I will also I am trying to create intergeneric hybrids with cacti, lol not humans, this last year, for example ferobergia and astrobergia , but DNA shit I dont really understand... ciao

    Origins of Homo sapiens

Dude the out of africa theory is not as strong as it was... and sapiens surely evolved long before 70.000 .... recent evidence shows that by 65.000 years ago sapiens had already migrated to australia.... I feel there are much more exodi than currently hypothesised... for example there are evidence that there were older out of africas for which we didn't calculate up to now... australia might have been conquered twice by sapiens... but how does the writer of th book you say prove this?? also, I am not familiar with genetics, I wont get into halplogroups or whatever... In any case, you seem to not be realising that the consensus in paleoanthopology has radically changed! long live the first version of Out of africa... fuck those fuckers ciao

    Origins of Homo sapiens

cant find when the book was written, plus I am in the stage of downloading directly papers and reading some recent research from the research paper itself,, dont think I fancy reading a non scientist, but I will keep it in my mind... this is a huge subject... in a few words my understanding is that the scientific consensus has been very hesitant to admit the initial "out of africa" model which was considered consensus, was well challennged from 2006-2007.. and it has done so for almost a decate but the picture now is completely different! all wikipedia articles mention the hybridisation events and multiple out of africa from multiple homininds... the article on the denisovan didnt exist in the current form a couple years ago... the picture on the net is completely different.. it is now well accepted that our species interbred with 3 other species.. even the location of the birth of the hominids, in africa was recently challenged... in this particular subject the hesiatation is somewhat more understandable, considering the tabboos and the arrogance and snobbery of science towards our closest relatives and out ancestors... you know, us humans were supposed to be so above all the rest of the human-like apes...
