  1. Picked up these two little fellows at bunnings - first one labelled as "peruvian torch" - supplier is hamiltons. It doesnt look particularly like a peruvianus to me, and I mistrust their labelling a bit as I bought another one labelled the same which I am pretty sure is a terscheckii...

Any guesses? I know it's hard to say based on a juvenile form... Pach? Scop? Peruvianus? Something else?

    From the top.

Second one looks much more like a peruvianus to me, unlabelled, supplier is collectors corner (paradisia). Smurf blue colour and golden spines. Beautiful cactus whatever it is anyway. If anyone else thinks it is very likely a peruvianus, I might pick up another one. There was a bigger one, but it had a few wounds and I suspect had beginnings of rot...

  2. Good to know, thanks HelloNasty.

I now have them covered in white plastic over the seed tray hood and they are under a table in my pergola, so they get light, but not direct exposure. How much and when should I start giving them a bit more sun and air?

  3. Hi,

have my babies had too much sunlight? They are going red...

They arent getting any direct sun exposure, and it's been pretty bleak weather here for the last week anyway, but I'd like your advice please.

I think theyre a bit like me, 15 minutes of sun and they go pink!

  4. Hi all,

pretty much my first real post here so go easy on me!

I'm a cacti noob, but a pretty experienced horticulturalist in general, and I sowed a bunch of seed about 10 days ago - super pedro x psycho0, and so far, I have only seen 1 sprouter. I know it's hard to say given the variables involved, but what would you estimate would be the longest period you'd wait for seeds to germinate? I'd really hoped for better rate than 5%, the vendor I got them from seems to be pretty reputable.

On the plus side, I have a few nice cuttings that are rooting, and cant wait to expand the collection! So far, I have an eileen bridgesii, a nice peruvianus, and a HB04 pedro.

I also saw a few bridgesii tops poking over a fence the other day on my way to work, so I'm planning on knocking and asking for a few cuts, hope the owners are friendly!

    Cheers all.
