Perfect man. thanks for the input! like the pics! edit: btw i almost got that same fox farms soil yesturday but it was so expensive! like 40$ for one bag. I can get the same sized bag for like 5$ and my tricho's LOVE it so far. I have my juuls giant and a zircon6 bridgesii in just straight cactus mix and they are growing fast and fat. i get it from lowes. Here it is http://www.lowes.com/pd_107434-11628-137_0__?productId=3006338

How to grow cactus from seed

I actually planted all my "show" cactus in just straight cactus mix and they actually seem to be my fastest healthiest plants! So they seem to like it. Lets hope it stays that way. I read a thing called "rock eaters" or somthing. It talked about how cactus are essentially rock eaters. So I switched to using cactus mix/sand/decomposed granite. We'll see how they like it.

dude thats a genius way to dry your cuttings.... in an empty pot in the upright position. I just recently started using 100% perlite for my cuttings. That way i can pull them out to check for roots much easier without damaging roots and im certain to get way less rotting issues when planting a cutting too soon.
  12. Do these separate cuttings look very simliar to ya'll? The first one is being sold as a bridgesii while the remaining pics are of what i was sold as a peruvianus. This cutting came from a cactus farm loaded with bridgesii but had this gigantic "peruvnianus" in the back. Is mine maybe a bridgesii? Just looks so similar to me!

    T. Pachanoi monstrose

Long spines. and the rib formation. They look identical to the monstrose i picked up a few months back from the same place. I guess I could be wrong and worst case they are just authentic pachanoi which im always looking for.
  16. These cuttings are HUGE MONGUS. They have flower buds forming that are white on teh tip but brown/dark colored as they emerge. They have the so-called "jelly bean" tipping going as well. Does it look like maybe authentic pachanoi?
  17. So ive got tons of cactus cuttings such as brevispinulosus and pachanoi sitting in my storage area drying horizontally. I noticed that after about a month or so.. the tips began to grow and reorient upward resulting in not only a twisted wierdly angled tip but also they are yellow tipped now. Is there a better way to store cuttings long term without them etiolating and changing colors at the tip? Ive had them stored in a dark cabinet on their sides. Turning them every so often im sure will help with the tip growing vertically but it doesnt solve the color change or the etiolation skinny tip action. any help is appreciated!

Cuttings turning white at the tip and more

hm ya ill just start drying them vertically.

    In ground Terscheckii and Cardon

Sic! This is my first cactus season and watching all my cactus pup is freakin awesome. I have a lumberjackius cutting that is just gorgeous and it just through out a pup at the tip WOO (it was a center cut cutting). Same deal with my SS02. Also one of my TBM's just sprouted 2 pups.
  20. Finally got around to getting my two T. Terscheckii and my Cardon (Pachycereus Pringlei) in ground. The one T. Terscheckii is variegated seemingly. I also finally put my PC San Pedro, Old Man, Old Woman, and Crested myrtillocactus outfront near the front door. more to come Also not pictured are my 16 Bishops Cap seedlings of various sizes that i potted up. Cant wait for those to take off. The mother plant is like 9" tall and putting out flowers lately and dropping seed Edit: Also, on the left side of the Terscheckii I will be planting a 2-4ft Pascana. Then on the right side of the Cardon I will have a 2-4ft Saguaro. what is really awesome about the position they are in is that the moon is usually just behind the wall so at night it can look picturesque.

    In ground Terscheckii and Cardon

Ive had it for a few months now. I know of a nursery that has tons of them. Paid 60$ for it.
  22. So ive been trying to source cactus cuttings from all over the place. Specifically Trichocereus cuttings. The main thing I have run into so far has been the attitude i receive from these wholesaler/nursery types. I am merely looking for bulk offers of tricho cuttings at wholesale pricing. Am i dense or is that not an offensive thing to ask a cactus dealer? I understand that its maybe not a request often heard but still Ive gotten so many negative put off responses when asking. Everyone tells me that the cactus biz is dead, or that they only get a few cuttings every so often and someone buys them right away. Though, again the attitude from these people is as though ive demanded from them that they supply me with 500 super rare tricho cuttings per month for free. Instead of just saying "no we dont carry tricho's or cuttings thank you for the interest". I just got off the phone with a well known cactus nursery in Arizona. I asked him if they offered cuttings of trichocereus and if so if they offer any type of bulk discount as im trying to start a business. His response was "ya know man.. i get a call just about every month from some guy starting a cactus biz trying to sell online .. blah blah blah..theres no money in it.. blah blah if thats what you really wanna do then go ahead but theres a reason everyone is closing up shop etc etc blah blah" essentially turning me completely off. Basically saying im wasting his time. Of course this was followed up with a long diatribe of how his nursery is huge and they normally take 5000+ cuttings a year and how they dont have any now since they always sell so fast etc etc blah blah. Anytime i tried to just ask if they offered any tricho's even potted.. his response was that of someone who was super offended at the thought. it just blows my mind. None of these people seemed to think i was using these cactus cuttings for nefarious reasons either. again it was as though i offended these people by just simply asking "do you offer bulk discounts on any trichocereus cuttings for cactus dealers". Oh another thing the guy said to me finally was "ya we do have potted trichos but were selling them retail. why would i sell them wholesale when i could make 7 times wholesale selling them retail!?!?!" all pissed off and offended sounding. Mind you they advertise as a wholesaler........................I stopped the guy in mid-diatribe finally and straight up asked him why i get such ass hole responses from dealers like him when asking such a benign question and he basically just talked out his ass and didnt explain anything. Though i think he got what i was getting at.. hey buddy stop being a prick.
