Do these seedlings look alright and growing at the right pace for about 6-8 weeks of age?
-
Hmm could high temps stunt/slow growth for seedlings? its been around 110F lately but obviously not in the shade.

Ya this is the same plant that some consider to be Huanucoensis that is sold by altmans.

JEEZ see im not getting this type of growth Maybe i need to move them into more light. Right now they are in shade under the patio. no direct sun. If i were to make a grow cabinet indoors for seedlings, how much lighting is IDEAL? Ill spare no expense. What about a 4 bulb T5 setup? I have a metal office cabinet that is 2' depth x 3' wide and adjustable shelves so like.. 1.5' headspace. Hostilis are you like super charging your seedlings to achieve such big growth? Or is it that you have more light? If i were to sow seedlings outdoor in this AZ heat... could i get away with them being under a 50% shade cloth? higher? lower? I feel like im not getting the most out of my seedlings!

Here are more side shots

LOL @ nitrogen. THanks for your input everyone. I think ill label this plant as Bridgesii but keep a historical background as to what it was sold to me as just to be fully transparent when selling this plant.
-
Here are the pics of the mother plant and the actual cutting before i rooted it. Maybe its a giant bridgesii....
-
Not seed grown, i believe it came from bachs nursery in tucson decades ago. What would you consider this to be?
-
excellent! ill start spritzing with seaweed fert then. what about airing them out? right now i keep them under a humidity dome and spray them 1 or 2 times a day once in the morning, once in the evening. I leave the top off for a few mins before i spray them.

Check out all the types of bridgesii ive managed to collect so far. Ive just labeled them CAx just to designate them in my garden. so ive been thinking, AZS have you seen this setup withstand monsoon season? thats my main fear. I want to have some sort of sturdy shade structure that protects against flying debris and such although thats not really a problem usually.

When i see a peruvianus lets say.. and its got wierd looking growth such as monstrose looking. Assuming that its not from frost damage, bug damage but just looks like it went wierd... does this mean that part of the plant IS infact monstrose? Would it mean that I could take a cutting from the wierd growth and see it continue growing like that? I assume no to all this but the reason I ask is that a friend of mine has a HUGE peruvianus stand that seems to have TONS of knotty, monstrose looking growth. Its hard to find decent tips to cut since so much of the plant is knotty growth or wierd ribbing that looks monstrose. So i wondered what this could mean assuming its not some sort of enviromental issue causing. If it is enviro, then what is causing it? How can i stop it?
-
I cant tell. is this a real pachanoi or a short spined peruvianus? isnt a short spine peru just a misnomer for a real pachanoi?
-
T. Pach or T. Peru Short spine?

magical9 replied to M S Smith's question in Cactus & Succulent Identification
heh. Well its a hobby for most people. its a business/obsession/hobby for me. -
Im looking to build that exact thing but with steel pipe in about the same size space.
-
interesting you think its bridgesoid... makes me wonder. although it does look distinctly different from my other hardgrown in ground 20+ year old bridgesii plants. could just be another form or hybrid though. The guy who originally planted these plants supposedly got them from bachs in tucson. but im not too sure about that.
-
oh ya youve got one of the best arms from that peruvianus even with its wierd ribbing.
-
So I rooted this gorgeous center cut Berkely Botanical Gardens Peruvianus i got from solaritea. This thing rooted so fast and well! But i noticed yesturday while watering that it developed base rot ! Does this plant/stump look at all recoverable? Its like 80% goop/rot, I chopped the top most part and cut it into 3 propagation section. It just kills me that this huge well rooted stump is going to go to waste.
-
its weird but then again makes sense.. but i had been considering cutting it into propagation pieces for a few weeks now.. this just made the decision that much easier. ill be super stoked if this rooted stump survives. I considered scooping out the mess as you suggested but i dont know how much would be left after heh

Ya i dont understand why they dont start an online webshop... it litterally took me 2 hours to put a site together and have a paypal system built in.. ya i figured that out after i sent my order.
