Here is my Len from a few angles. Cacus in my garden seem to like to grow long spines......
And I got the below one as a "Tripsis Peruvianus" but I think it looks very different to yours, Pinegap, and also I would say this one looks more like a macrogonus due to the denser spination and closer areoles. Thoughts?

The bumpiness and sharp angular look is what said L schottii monstrose to me but it's the spines that made me think otherwsie. I don't remember the large L Schottii specimens I've seen having spines quite like those....
Spine pic closeup needed! ;)

There has been very little on Facebook regarding what was said above, although I wasn't checking much whilst I was away recently....
But as much as facebook can suck if you use it wrong it can be alright if you set it up so you just get a constant stream of cactus with a dab of mushrooms and brugs thrown in the mix, then it's cool enough for what it is. Just avoid drama and don't be a dick, they're my easy rules for interacting on facebook. So facebook gives me a constant drip feed of random cactus pics and more in depth and meaningful discussions can be had on here. Plus you can get mushies and plants ID'd over there super fast due to the size of the user base in some groups, not so much for ethnobotany but just whatever.
I have met nice people from here and from facebook, and shit, most of us know that heaps of people are on both SAB and FB in some capacity anyway.
And yeah, from all my dealings Olive has always been great to trade with, we have both increased our tricho collections diversity very well. I have seen one or two misidentified plants of his, but with a collection his size and as I'm sure he'd tell you, only being into cactus hardcore in the recent years is completely understandable.
Anyway, back on with the sales! We've got you beat over here on bargains, Conv3rgence.

Have you got a better picture of some of those spiny areoles?
I can see why DB said L schotii as it does look quite similar. But if I was guessing for now, (which I am), I'd say maybe a T spachianus/santiaguensis monstrose.

Well it wasn't meant to be, for me at least. Someone could have got the deal of the century though! I think after a short while a few people would have got wind of this and she would have got a huge number of calls. I emailed and got a few responses butt hey would not post. After Someone from Brissy got on the case for me it seemed too late and the seller stopped responding.
Hopefully they have at least gone to a loving home.
Cheers for all the offers of help I received and for everyone helping this thread come to life.
It did cross my mind that this could have been a jilted lover selling their (ex) partners plants to spite them.... But that's all conjecture on my part.

I have a psychO but its relatively new arrival. From descriptions, and especially of the double spine motive noted on PsychO, it is perfectly possible that TIG=PsychoO. TIG consistently does the double spine motive, and is pretty recognisable by that and fatness alone, at least in my collection and in my eyes .. PsychoO is still a 20cm freshly rooted cutting...
Once you see Psycho0 and Tig growing in the same garden near each other you will realise they are quite different. I have seen other people make the same comparison when they only owned one of these clones. But really, they look quite different from each other.
Tig does do a double spine arangement, but really, it's more of a double-double arrangement with two facing upward and two facing down. Psycho0 does not display a similar, symmetrical double spine arrangement at all.

What is it Zed?
A secret!
But Olive's right, I do love me some sweet, sweet cactus.
But yeah, I doubt it will actually come through. I have a Brisbane local on the case with me now. But I think it may be too good to be true.... we shall see......
And Pat - thanks for the kind offer, but to be honest, I've not seen much from you on this forum except responses to legitimate questions that make little to no sense, you and I have certainly never dealt with each other. So forgive me if I didn't feel comfortable in hitting you up about this situation.

I have found something I would very much like. The problem? It needs to be picked up from Brisbane and I live in Adelaide.
I'd like someone in Brisbane to pick it up and then post it to me. I think this will work out very well for both of us if you can help out.
If you think you can help out please PM me. Members with some history and trust behind them here are more desired.
Thanks!

Those spines don't look like they go anywhere near as white, (or as fast), as other cuzco forms.
And I think the reason Berengar mentioned Zelly's seed is people have thought that Zelly's Validus looks like a fat cuzco ally rather than looking like the well know Australian Validus clones.

I should be able to help you out with fresh scop pollen but not for somewhere between 3 and 6 weeks as my buds are still coming along.
If that sounds like the timing might work for you I can keep you posted as they get ready to pop.

The first one you posted about looks a bit like what gets called Trichocereus WK (aka - T. manguinii)to me.

Second one doesn't look like a tricho, no hairs on the flowers at all.

I got my seeds yesterday! Thanks EG!
Mine was also opened by customs and had a little form saying nothing had been removed.
Most of the seeds are still in their little paper envelopes so can be identified but there's probably about 30 - 50 seeds that somehow escaped and are floating in the main envelope that I won't know what they are, so I'll sow those separately as a mystery tub.

I have to extend a big thanks to Zelly for being very hospitable a few days ago. I had a wonderful time.
Also to Nitrogen for popping in for a chat for a while.
It was absolutely fantastic to be able to meet you both. If either of you are to come to Australia I will very happily show you some spots and open my house to you.
And to Highdesertcacti for providing some guest passes for me and Zelly to go to the Huntington. Wonderful place it is too. Could have spent longer there but they're only open for 4.5 hours on a weekday.
I have LOTS of cool cactus pics to share with you all. And I will, but most likely not for a week or so until I'm back home and can spend some time resizing and uploading them. I am seriously behind on my SAB-ing so will get back into it as soon as I can. I will also be creating a mushroom thread to document the first 2 weeks of my trip when I spent much time in forests and had some great and exciting finds. Including a Boletus edulis, (porcini), on Vancouver island.
I'm in Scottsdale at the moment, (near Phoenix). And am heading down to Saguaro national park and probably one of either the Phoenix desert botanical gardens of the desert botanical gardens at Tucson. We shall see how early I get up and get on with the day as I have a bunch of dricing to get done to complete my mission.....
How's this for a pic from the kitchen window of the place I'm staying at? (excuse the overexposed pic - trust me, the view from the kitchen is amazing, multiple saguaros out each window, and every other window of the house!)
And the Cac-Stang has been treating me well. Thought I'd get one of these as all the Americans drive them, (and by that I mean all the tourists rent them....)

For aussies, diggers club always seem to have painted mountain corn seeds in stock. Which look to be basically the same kind of heirloom corn as this.
-
I would most likely be interested in one or two of each. I may just check the climate requirements of where I intend to plant them too, of course.
-
If you have something super awesome to trade I could maybe spare a small amount of psycho0 X Yowie and the reverse cross from last season.
But keep in mind it will not be a large number of seeds, I have more of the PxY than I do of the YxP.

Cool stuff. Would love a closer up pic of a nice tip to see the spination in detail if possible.

Any backstory on these and which variety they may be? Are they from the plant out at Gawler that's been advertised on Gumtree a few times?

Coming along......
I also read something on FB recently about Midas, a yellow sanguinea cultivar and the possibility that it is self fertile, which as I said earlier, is unheard of as it's usually only arborea that is self fertile.
I sent the pic you put up through to others and they said your flower looks just like "Midas" so it may be possible that yours has pollinated itself after all. I was hoping for a more exciting colour than the standard yellow, but we will see hopefully in only a few short months when they flower.
