  1. No our doctors are corporate whores just like in the US. Our AMA follows the US AMA like a lost puppy with the benefit of a hysteresis that creates a lag in legislation that allows them to keep selling all the pharmaceuticals that have been banned from sale over there.

We're the dumping ground for dangerous, lethal drugs that can't be sold there any more, so in many ways it's worse here than it is over there. It's a bit like Mexico in that respect.

Having multiple people within my family who are long term practicing doctors, as well as two pharmacists, I take exception to you painting doctors with the same broad brush above.

As with any avenue of life, some people are assholes and not particularly smart, whether they're in the medical profession or not. But many, many doctors are very conscientious people who do a huge amount of study in their "personal" time and truly want the very best outcomes for their patients. Sure, some doctors are assholes, if you find that you do not get along with your doctor just go and find another one who is better. It's pretty damn rare you find the love of your life the first time you date anyone, so why is it so hard for people to go to a few different doctors and find one that you like and trust?

Just remember that doctors are people too, and usually they are people who have devoted their entire lives to directly helping improve the quality and length of other peoples lives. Just imagine a world without the huge amount of good work that doctors have done. The world would be a much, much shittier place without them.

And in relation to your comment about us using out of date drugs, there are numerous drugs that the Australian system will not allow to be used anymore, (or that were just never approved at all), as they don't meet our standards even thought he US has approved them for current use in that country. And other drugs that have been outlawed here that are still in use in the states. So that argument could be flung around at either countries practitioners.

  2. Sharxx blue comes fro Dawsons cactus farm. If you're in Vic and not too far away you might be able to go for a drive and get it along with some others right from the source......

Your being location listed as "double double" doesn't tell me where you are so it might be a completely moot point.....

  3. It's not really a scary show, it's stupidly schlocky and pretty silly. Quips and cliches run fast and thick. So yeah, don't go in expecting a great philosophical debate about psychadelics and their healing powers or anythign else particularly deep. But it's a fun show even if you aren't a full horror buff or anything.

The cactus was just a welcome background filler that I guess gave some credit to the shows research about shamanism I suppose even though the whole aya thing didn't really add anything to the plot. Also, I just really like cactus.

[edit] - Sally, get a VPN.

  4. My comment is not meant to piss you off.

Did you look at the link I posted? Did you see the relevant section called "Schedule 3-Controlled plants" and the specific entry in that section that reads "any plant containing MESCALINE including any plant of the genus Lophophora" ? The policing bodies are not so stupid to be unaware that plants from the genus trichocereus contain mescaline also, not just lophophora.

Ignorance to the laws you are breaking is not a valid defence in court, also, saying "i don't grow them for consumption and only for cultivation purposes" doesn't mean you aren't breaking the law, (if I'm interpreting it correctly). For example, a person saying "I just grow marijuana as a screening plant from the summer sun, it's not for smoking or selling" doesn't mean you won't be charged under the full force of the law.

My post was not meant to misinform at all, quite the opposite. I am asking for more information and come clarification to make sure people, (including myself), are aware of the legalities.

I find it a bit curious and funny that my asking the forum and it's members for more information and clarification about this issue that does affect South Australians in a polite way has got you so riled up. Why?

The response you got from AQIS seems to indicate that person didn't happen to know that trichos contain mescaline as they only referenced the illegality of lophophora even though their email contained the line "The Schedule includes any plant containing MESCALINE". I would hazard a guess you didn't tell that nice lady that trichos contain it, yeah?

It does not matter how many links you put up saying, trichos aren't delclared weeds, aren't on any import bans, etc, etc. If there is a law saying they are illegal in another piece of legislation, then they're illegal, regardless of any lists they happen to NOT be on.

Again, I am asking for clarification from people who may have more knowledge and have researched this. I also requested the thread me moved to a more suitable section of SAB (if you are worried about this bringing attention to an issue).

And in regards to why would I mention the SAB store? Well shit, this forum is linked to SAB, many people spend lots of money with SAB, (as I have), many of us respect and love the work Torsten has done regarding plants we love, and yes, they do send them to SA. Maybe SAB sending to SA is an indication they think there is no issue with illegality? Maybe it indicates they don't give a fuck, I don't know.

If it makes you feel better, Herbalistics also send trichos to SA as do many, many sellers off of here and eBay. Better now that I don't just mention a single seller?

I also have no problem having that link in my sig, or having a profile I use on FB for these plants.

[EDIT] - I do just want to clarify that although I had a direct answer from T some time ago, it was a very brief, one word answer and I did not want to bother him by asking for clarification. If this is the case I just want to learn where in the law makes it so.

  5. I would like clarification on this point.

I have been told directly by Torsten that trichocereus are illegal in SA. (SAB store has still sent plenty to this state though....)

Page 28 of this document seems to indicate that a number of plants in the trichocereus genus would be illegal, although not ALL plants in the genus trichocereus as not all contain the evil alkaloid listed.

    https://www.legislation.sa.gov.au/LZ/C/R/CONTROLLED%20SUBSTANCES%20%28CONTROLLED%20DRUGS%20PRECURSORS%20AND%20PLANTS%29%20REGULATIONS%202014/CURRENT/2014.236.UN.PDF

I believe that due to certain, illegal compounds being found in trichocereus makes those trichos illegal, even though the genus trichocereus isn't specifically listed as being illegal in and of itself.

So why would AQIS or BioSec know about drug laws since that's not their core business or their responsibility? According to their lists of allowed plants trichos are fine, sure, but according to the controlled substances and plants regulations, (linked above), a number of the species would not be.

As an aside, doesn't the above document also mean that many opuntia species are illegal to own in SA as they also contain very small amounts of the evil alkaloid?

Funnily, DMT is listed as illegal in the "Controlled Drugs" section of the above document but there is no mention of plants containing DMT being illegal, so in that way the classification differs from the one for trichos and the evil alkaloid.

Also - to the admins - any chance of getting this thread moved to either the "Legal Matters" or "not visible to google" sections of the site? Whilst I don't want to draw too much attention to this, especially if people in power want to enforce or strengthen these laws, I think clarification is sorely needed.

  6. Haha! I've got a couple of scop X bridges and it looked so similar. :)

The fat yellow spines on the brand new growth are what reminded me of mine. But yeah, it retains a very scop-like and SP-ish vibe to it. I like how scop seems to be very dominant when it's the mother. I have grown some scop X fat spach that you would never guess had spach in their genetics.

  7. Where does the original Super pedro mother come from ?

    Has anyone got any pics?

    Cactus country in Strathmerton.

I'm sure many people have larger plants than I. But here are some pics of one of mine that's planted out. I have about 4 clones of this one growing as it's just so attractive I can't help myself. :)

One of mine in post 344 of this thread is flowering this year, it's in a pot so is a bit thinner though. Still have to decide what I'll cross it with......

  8. Hey Yeti, You've got anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks I reckon, (Depending on weather and the plants "mood" they can go faster or slower). But I'd say pretty much at Christmas or New year those will pop for you.

I Have to say though, (cause I can't hold my tongue sometimes), that I really don't think that's a Super Pedro, it really doesn't look like that clone at all.

  9. awesome! zed, what is your area's equivalent to US zone system? 8-9 ?

This area is a bit of 9 and 10. Hot and dry summers with low humidity. Reasonably wet winters. Some frost, between 3 and 13, (maximum, not often this many), days of frost per year really. But frost is only at night or early morning and some years might be milder and with less frosts.

The agave attenuatas really did not like the frost this year either.

  10. I have way too many favourites, and unlike my parents when they said they didn't have a favourite, (it was me, of course) I guess I'll have to pick just one.

I will err on the side of "Jeans" and await being stabbed by many other jealous cactus in the near future.

A very lucky SABer will be stoked to win this.

Excellent work, good sir! Your generosity surprises me often. :worship:

  11. Put It on the nature strip?? ?

Yeah, I could I suppose, there is no concrete/paved path out the side of my place. Can't say I really want to put it out there though. It would have to be very close to 2 silky oaks, (Grevillea robusta), that are out there already. And of course able to be messed with by the general public. I do live about 2 streets away from a large school and have kids walking past each day, I would be a little afraid some of them might like to mess with a newly planted tree out there. :scratchhead:

  12. you cannnot transplant acacia plants beyond a certain age. it will mean certain death for your plant im afraid.

Well that's shit. :BANGHEAD2: I did think that would be the case though. I am aware that many natives don't like to be transplanted.

My only other option is to plant it out at one of my parent's place and then I'll only get to visit it every now and then. Maybe I'll just plant it at my place anyway and grow some more from seed to plant out at my folks place..... Maybe if I put it close to the fence line it may be able to be left alone when my house gets knocked down.....

  13. Here is mine. It got frost damaged about 3 months ago. It has bounced back now though. It's starting to get super fat now it's been planted out in the ground. Got mine from Bunnings, (hardware store). Only cactus to get frost damage here were this one and a hairy pilosocereus. All the trichos were fine.

Some shots before it got frost damaged.

Slightly after the damage and starting to grow out again.

I will edit this to show you a pic of the BIG Browningia hertlingiana at the Huntington Botanic Garden later tonight too. Now that sucker is BLUE! :)

[EDIT] - shitty picture. It was a super bright day and I thought I'd get a pic from another angle from the other side. Oh well.

  14. I have an A. phlebophylla that's probably about 45cm tall at the moment. It's in a 20cm pot.

I am thinking about finding a suitable spot in the ground for it and one place I have in mind gets full sun between about 9am and 4pm in summer, (less in winter). Do you guys think that it may go alright there with the proper soil set up? Or do I preferably need a place with full sun all day for it to have the best chance?

And as a slight aside, in about 4 or 5 years I may be bulldozing my house and unfortunately my garden too, if my phleb survives until then could I look at uprooting and transplanting it, or is that a sure death sentence for it?
