    Keiki Paste

I have mixed BAP with olive oil. Worked fine. More likely to run and hit more areoles than you planned to than when you mix with something a bit more solid like lanolin though. My next experiment is to mix it with manuka honey and use it in between the stock and scion at the point of grafting. Just for shits and giggles.

ID-found growing in fern from Bunnings

You should ask Alan Rockefeller either on facebook or Shroomery. He's a go-to guy, (he's a very active mycologist), for psilocybes and should be able to put you on the right track. https://www.facebook.com/alan.rockefeller http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showprofile.php?User=169393 I am nowhere near a psilocybe expert but it just doesn't look quite right to be a psilocybe to me.... The stipe and top of the cap look a bit off. Could be the pics, or my interpretation of them and lack of knowledge.....

    Raising A.Phlebophylla

So, my plant has started to look sad. Any help would be appreciated and since this thread is all about raising phlebophylla I thought this was a very suitable place to ask, as others could learn from my experience also. It has appeared to be pretty happy at my place until the last week or so. Now it has phyllodes starting to brown and it has appear to get worse over the last few days with phyllodes getting browner further up the trunk. I water it with rainwater almost every day, (every day when hot), and gave it a little sprinkle of osmocote native fertilizer shortly after getting it about 3-4 months ago. We have just gone through 4 days of 40 degree weather and over that time even with water he has started to look a little sad. So any ideas as to whether you think this is "normal" heat stress or is there something else that I need to do for him? Does he need to be re-potted or something like that? It gets full sun between about 8am and 4pm at the moment, outside of those times it is shaded. Any if anyone can shed some light on phleb's self sterility or fertility when it comes to setting seed I would appreciate it as I am no more educated on that as I was when I asked the question in the post above this one. If I can't find any answers in the next few days this sucker is going to go in the ground and future consequences be damned.

    seed grown Trichocereus ID

That's a sacred succulents collection number. BK stands for Ben Kamm, one of the owners who does field trips and collects seeds and plants. http://trichocereus.net/bk09509-2-trichocereus-sp-chavin-ancash-peru/

    Hybrid Naming Conventions

True, but I think that may be more to do with business people not caring that they may be misleading people due to their desire to make money. Otherwise they would call them "Pachanoi OP". Either that or it's willing ignorance, as I've heard before some nurseries don't believe trichos need to be crossed. It's not that hard to do some research.....

    Hybrid Naming Conventions

I'm going to go ahead and disagree with you there. Even though all trichos, (except spachianus), are self sterile and require a genetically different donor; if you cross 2 plants that are both pachanois but they aren't clones, then you still end up with "pure" pachanoi seeds and the resulting plants would be called "pachanoi", not "pachanoi X pachanoi". Same as if you cross 2 different bridgesiis, you still get "pure" bridgesii seed. This isn't to say you couldn't cross 2 named pachanoi clones and keep those details with them. For example Pachanoi "Rod" X Pachanoi "Yowie" but that would still result in a plant/seeds you could/should just legitimately call "pachanoi".

    Hybrid Naming Conventions

Yep - the above comment certainly looks right to me, just keep using more brackets as you get longer hybrids to denote each plants parents. In regards to keeping track of the year that a particular cross between 2 plants was made, it really doesn't matter. For example, SS02 X SS01 made this year or made 5 years ago is still written exactly the same way and is still crossing the same genetics. For your records you may want to know if it was from Zelly in 2013 or 2015, but if it's the same 2 plants being crossed it makes no difference if you keep the year or not as any possible combination of genes could be in any one seed regardless of the year it was crossed. Related to this is who created the cross, to be honest, if the seeds came from the same 2 plants it doesn't matter. For eg, if Zelly crosses SS02 X SS01 and so does a guy called Cactus McFucktus over in Wyoming, the resulting seeds still have the exact same genetic mix available to them, so both can quite easily be called "SS02 X SS01" with no qualifier needed, unless of course you personally just like to know where your seeds came from originally. (which I do too) So basically, brackets are your friend in this and Mother's name is always first, and they're the standard usually used in plant hybridization as far as I'm aware. So a cross can be as long as you like and as long as you use the brackets properly to identify each cross within that plants parentage and have kept everything labelled correctly in the long term it doesn't matter. And remember, double brackets are also a thing. ;) So if you cross a clone of SS02 with a clone of SS01 you would write the resulting seeds and plants as being "SS02 X SS01". Then say you grow two seeds from that same batch out and cross them back with each other when they flower you will have created a cross called "(SS02 X SS01) X (SS02 X SS01)" Then say you used pollen from the above plant to fertilize a Psycho0 X Yowie flower - you would end up with "(Psycho0 X Yowie) X ((SS02 X SS01) X (SS02 X SS01))" All this makes perfect sense to me and as long as you keep accurate records will give you a true history of the plants origins. And yes, that does mean the more you hybridize the longer the names will get. Unless you just give up after all that time as it's too hard to keep proper records and start calling them by stupid names, like Anna, Rob, Len, Psycho0, Norma and so on.

Maybe Sharxx will pop into the thread and inform us of it's origins himself? He's still around the forum from time to time and that would be super nice, I'm sure we'd all appreciate it.
  11. I don't know if you're being serious or not, but no doctor receives a kick back for putting someone on chemotherapy. (Or for putting people on any other drugs, in Australia, at least). I have heard about some US and overseas clinicians taking huge kickbacks or payouts for either "speaking at a conference" or some other BS reason when they have prescribed enough of "drug A".
  12. I am very sorry you and your family and friends have had to deal with some pretty horrible health situations. Obviously that's something I doubt anyone would wish on any other person. Drug companies can offer items of no more than $10 value per clinician here in Australia. Drug reps used to be able to give away huge gifts but those laws were changed at least 20 years ago. Neither doctor in my family will accept anything from a drug rep except a free pen on rare occasions, and no, they don't even accept or eat the "free" lunches they drop off at the clinics/hospital. And yes, I'm biased due to my family connections and I also currently work in medical student education, so I do have a reasonable amount of contact with a range of clinicians. I am glad you pointed out your bias of having bad experiences with one particular and very difficult medical field also. Statins are a funny one. I think a lot of doctors think they are over prescribed but also agree there are some cases where they are absolutely necessary. I don't mind if you do or don't list why you think doctors are all in it for the money and are being swayed by "big pharma" in every decision. I will however take exception at the general tone being one of "all doctors are evil and in it for the money rather than the health outcomes" as I just don't think that's the case for the overwhelming majority of them at all.
  13. Having multiple people within my family who are long term practicing doctors, as well as two pharmacists, I take exception to you painting doctors with the same broad brush above. As with any avenue of life, some people are assholes and not particularly smart, whether they're in the medical profession or not. But many, many doctors are very conscientious people who do a huge amount of study in their "personal" time and truly want the very best outcomes for their patients. Sure, some doctors are assholes, if you find that you do not get along with your doctor just go and find another one who is better. It's pretty damn rare you find the love of your life the first time you date anyone, so why is it so hard for people to go to a few different doctors and find one that you like and trust? Just remember that doctors are people too, and usually they are people who have devoted their entire lives to directly helping improve the quality and length of other peoples lives. Just imagine a world without the huge amount of good work that doctors have done. The world would be a much, much shittier place without them. And in relation to your comment about us using out of date drugs, there are numerous drugs that the Australian system will not allow to be used anymore, (or that were just never approved at all), as they don't meet our standards even thought he US has approved them for current use in that country. And other drugs that have been outlawed here that are still in use in the states. So that argument could be flung around at either countries practitioners.

    magical sharx blue

Sharxx blue comes fro Dawsons cactus farm. If you're in Vic and not too far away you might be able to go for a drive and get it along with some others right from the source...... Your being location listed as "double double" doesn't tell me where you are so it might be a completely moot point.....

Ash vs Evil Dead - ayahuasca scene

It's not really a scary show, it's stupidly schlocky and pretty silly. Quips and cliches run fast and thick. So yeah, don't go in expecting a great philosophical debate about psychadelics and their healing powers or anythign else particularly deep. But it's a fun show even if you aren't a full horror buff or anything. The cactus was just a welcome background filler that I guess gave some credit to the shows research about shamanism I suppose even though the whole aya thing didn't really add anything to the plot. Also, I just really like cactus. [edit] - Sally, get a VPN.
  16. A few of my plants buds have really sped up in the last few days. Can't wait for these to start popping. A recent find I like very much Scop Norma Anakie
  17. Why don't you use hydrogen peroxide since it just breaks down into water and oxygen? Just be careful to wear protective gear as that shit burns.

Yeah, I saw that last night. Did you notice all of the trichocereus cactus planted alongside the shamans house in a few shots too? That was pretty cool.

    Cactus in my garden

Hi TPM, welcome. Your plants look like they are Trichocereus pachanoi rather than "peruvian torch". "Peruvian torch" usually refers to Trichocereus peruvianus which has longer spines and looks a little different to these. Very nice plants you have.

    SA trichocereus.

My comment is not meant to piss you off. Did you look at the link I posted? Did you see the relevant section called "Schedule 3-Controlled plants" and the specific entry in that section that reads "any plant containing MESCALINE including any plant of the genus Lophophora" ? The policing bodies are not so stupid to be unaware that plants from the genus trichocereus contain mescaline also, not just lophophora. Ignorance to the laws you are breaking is not a valid defence in court, also, saying "i don't grow them for consumption and only for cultivation purposes" doesn't mean you aren't breaking the law, (if I'm interpreting it correctly). For example, a person saying "I just grow marijuana as a screening plant from the summer sun, it's not for smoking or selling" doesn't mean you won't be charged under the full force of the law. My post was not meant to misinform at all, quite the opposite. I am asking for more information and come clarification to make sure people, (including myself), are aware of the legalities. I find it a bit curious and funny that my asking the forum and it's members for more information and clarification about this issue that does affect South Australians in a polite way has got you so riled up. Why? The response you got from AQIS seems to indicate that person didn't happen to know that trichos contain mescaline as they only referenced the illegality of lophophora even though their email contained the line "The Schedule includes any plant containing MESCALINE". I would hazard a guess you didn't tell that nice lady that trichos contain it, yeah? It does not matter how many links you put up saying, trichos aren't delclared weeds, aren't on any import bans, etc, etc. If there is a law saying they are illegal in another piece of legislation, then they're illegal, regardless of any lists they happen to NOT be on. Again, I am asking for clarification from people who may have more knowledge and have researched this. I also requested the thread me moved to a more suitable section of SAB (if you are worried about this bringing attention to an issue). And in regards to why would I mention the SAB store? Well shit, this forum is linked to SAB, many people spend lots of money with SAB, (as I have), many of us respect and love the work Torsten has done regarding plants we love, and yes, they do send them to SA. Maybe SAB sending to SA is an indication they think there is no issue with illegality? Maybe it indicates they don't give a fuck, I don't know. If it makes you feel better, Herbalistics also send trichos to SA as do many, many sellers off of here and eBay. Better now that I don't just mention a single seller? I also have no problem having that link in my sig, or having a profile I use on FB for these plants. [EDIT] - I do just want to clarify that although I had a direct answer from T some time ago, it was a very brief, one word answer and I did not want to bother him by asking for clarification. If this is the case I just want to learn where in the law makes it so.

    SA trichocereus.

I would like clarification on this point. I have been told directly by Torsten that trichocereus are illegal in SA. (SAB store has still sent plenty to this state though....) Page 28 of this document seems to indicate that a number of plants in the trichocereus genus would be illegal, although not ALL plants in the genus trichocereus as not all contain the evil alkaloid listed. https://www.legislation.sa.gov.au/LZ/C/R/CONTROLLED%20SUBSTANCES%20%28CONTROLLED%20DRUGS%20PRECURSORS%20AND%20PLANTS%29%20REGULATIONS%202014/CURRENT/2014.236.UN.PDF I believe that due to certain, illegal compounds being found in trichocereus makes those trichos illegal, even though the genus trichocereus isn't specifically listed as being illegal in and of itself. So why would AQIS or BioSec know about drug laws since that's not their core business or their responsibility? According to their lists of allowed plants trichos are fine, sure, but according to the controlled substances and plants regulations, (linked above), a number of the species would not be. As an aside, doesn't the above document also mean that many opuntia species are illegal to own in SA as they also contain very small amounts of the evil alkaloid? Funnily, DMT is listed as illegal in the "Controlled Drugs" section of the above document but there is no mention of plants containing DMT being illegal, so in that way the classification differs from the one for trichos and the evil alkaloid. Also - to the admins - any chance of getting this thread moved to either the "Legal Matters" or "not visible to google" sections of the site? Whilst I don't want to draw too much attention to this, especially if people in power want to enforce or strengthen these laws, I think clarification is sorely needed.

    Super Pedro ID

Haha! I've got a couple of scop X bridges and it looked so similar. The fat yellow spines on the brand new growth are what reminded me of mine. But yeah, it retains a very scop-like and SP-ish vibe to it. I like how scop seems to be very dominant when it's the mother. I have grown some scop X fat spach that you would never guess had spach in their genetics.
