    Subs 2014

Got quite a few more this weekend. There were LOTS of people out in the forests. Some being a bit more discreet than others, but plenty of people are out there looking for them around here!! Love the ruffled edges on this one. Looks kinds unique. Not big waves like they can get, just delicate ruffles. OK, I've added a pic of a wavey one from 2 days earlier at another spot. Just so you all know what I'm on about. ;) It's probably just younger but it looks cool. And I've added this one just because it's the only other pic I took with my phone. I still have to re-size and get the ones from the decent camera ready to post online....
  2. Looks good! None of my seedlings have done this so far. I'd be interested to hear what others have to say too.

    American trade, seeds, cacti, genetics.

My pereskiopsis looked completely "normal" until i put it out in full sun. Now those plants get massive red/black spines too. I think it's just very variable depending on growing conditions. The ones under my lights have almost no spines but are quite hairy on the areoles, like yours. And the leaves on mine go more thick and succulent-like when they're outside too. The ones under lights have thinner leaves.

My first finds a few weeks ago A couple days later somewhere else A few shots from a few days after at a similar spot And the 2 haul pics from another 2 hunts a couple of days apart about a week ago, but all the pics from the hunt with the shots in habitat are on the decent camera I borrowed and not resized yet, I'll add them to this post soon.

    Legalising medical cannabis in Australia

Luckily in SA the small amount I ever have on my person or in my house can only attract a fine and no criminal convictions of any kind. The biggest thing I think that ruins people lives is giving them a criminal record for the possession of such small amounts of MJ. A crim rec means most employers won't be interested in hiring you, international travel is restricted and other frustrating things eventuate also.

    Planthelper F2 seeds giveaway

Mine also arrived yesterday! Thanks HD! Funny looking seeds with that little wing on one side. Now I've gotta do some more research about how best to get them to germinate and grow! Do I make room under fluros and do it now, do I do it in spring outside... Decisions decisions... Maybe I'll do some now under the fluros and some more outside in early spring....

    Legalising medical cannabis in Australia

Wow, a uni student wants to legalize MJ?? Surprise surprise.... I'm sure his next 4 years of med school and the 3 or so years after that to become qualified will stamp out his desire to be an activist for it's legalization. He will come up against so much big pharma resistance and the problems with it being schedule 9 that he will most likely give this cause up very soon. Fuck I sound negative. I must need a cone.... ;)

This section needs a "show wild finds" thread

Hi Mutant. i used a friends Canon 5d Mark3 with a Canon 24-105 lens. Taken in a pitch black room, no light other than the light from the fungi, exposure time was between 20 and 30 secs, ISO was between 1600 - 5000, F-stop between 4 and 9. My housemate actually found another small patch of these at another spot a day later. He recognized them after seeing my finds. So I took some more pics but I put a little friend in the middle of the fungi in the first couple of these shots cause I wanted to see if it'd light it up. Worked OK I reckon. You can also see that his finds are not as bright as the ones I found. I also found a couple of macrolepiota clelandii which I tried some of last night. Was actually VERY tasty! I'll be looking for more of those when I'm out and about. It's a pity they aren't as gregarious as something like amanita muscaria! When found Cut up on the board and halfway through frying.

    Seed Giveaway (cacti & more)

Thanks for this great giveaway Hooka, I'm just crushed I didn't win! You have a lot of responsibility on your hands now Senor, what with all the people who were dreaming of germing the JG x K seeds you've won! ;-) Make sure to show us pics when they grow up a little! [edit] - didn't see you'd already said you'd post pics.....

Question about rooting stumps and pupping

Hmm, I dunno, even the glaucus growth marks make it look like it's currently right side up though....

Question about rooting stumps and pupping

It might depend on the size of the log. I planted a 4 foot Pachanot tip cutting on it's side last summer and it now has the original growth tip turned upwards and I think at least 7 pups growing along the length of it. I think unless I cut it into about 4 sections to plant upright I would not have got that many pups. Granted, the 2 bridgesii that I planted sideways were only about a foot long each and they have pupped 1 and 2 times each respectively. [edit] - oh yeah, the log I planted horizontally started to pup way down the bottom within a few weeks of laying it down. Didn't take mine long at all. The bridgesii's probably took about 2-3 months to pup on their sides though.

    Champion! thanks.

Question about rooting stumps and pupping

Are you completely sure that's planted upside down? I swear on the first 2 pics it looks like some pretty clear V notches above the couple of upper areoles closest to the camera... I put a couple of circles around the areoles I reckon I can see the V notch the clearest in the photo below.
  16. Absolutely wondonerful idea! It'd have to be a cuzco! Except that his name would then end up being kind of famous, which he'd probably like in some kind of sick way. Haha! ;)

I am happy to take your word on that! They certainly do a good job of being a sub lookalike though. [edit] I have a couple more pics of these so I might make an ID request...

    Trich Seed Giveaway

som Validus x Bridgesii(Helen) would be lovely. Thanks very much!
  19. Definitely looks Cuzco to me. I'm sure plenty more people will chime in. I've now seen a few threads that are pretty negative towards this particular seller. Seems like he's happy to be rude to people with some knowledge and to just keep selling overpriced stuff to people super keen to get their hands on a Trich.

There are some psilocybe subaeruginosa about in SA at the mo. Here are some pics from the last week and a half or so. And some Galerina Marginata doing a good job at looking like subs... Careful out there! And a couple of others found in natural scrub land. I think the yellow one on the right is maybe a Austropaxillus spp. but not sure. If anyone knows what the tiny, orange, wavy ones on the log in the left side pic are please let me know! And these guys were hiding inside a log in the pine forest.

    Seed Giveaway (cacti & more)

Hi Hookahead, If aussie members are cool to be in on this I'd love some of the cactus seeds. Any of the three following kinds would be great! (But especially the JG X Kimnach!) Juuls Giant x Kimnach (1) (SS02 x SS01) x (SS02 x SS01) PC Pachanoi x (SS02 x SS01) Number 4 I reckon. [EDIT] - I will be more than happy to germ the cactus seeds and then spread some seedlings around the Aussie community, (once they're old enough), if I happen to win. [EDIT #2] - Since I get to pick another I'll add cherry tomato to my post. - Fingers crossed for these seeds for sure! So keen to germ the cactus seeds if I'm lucky! [EDIT #3] - it's weird how manic's post just showed up at number 4 and pushed everyone down one spot, not that I think it matters, just weird...

    AYAHUASCA

I know people have had their cactus collections confiscated and gotten into legal troubles due to the possession of them. Just because you don't like or agree with a law does not mean that the same law cannot fuck you up the ass! And in regards to drug busts, cops are pretty opportunistic and will bust someone for really tiny amounts of illegal substances, because the laws are there to be policed and they have the powers to do so. The reality check is this - yes, these things are illegal - yes, your life can be impacted very negatively if you are caught. Yes, you should protect yourself. (and protecting yourself usually means not "hooking" strangers up with illegal substances!) The wonderful thing about the internet and the age of information we live in is you can find this stuff out for yourself and track down what you need to know and acquire the things needed to make or get these substances with not much chance of being prosecuted. But chatting with strangers about your ability to "hookup" these things is still stupid and leaves yourself more vulnerable to a legal ass fucking. BTW, go ahead and abuse me for my opinions too, tell me I'm stupid, it's all water off a ducks back anyway. Haha!
  23. Thanks for the info Micromegas. There is about 5 that have started to grow all within about 2 feet of each other. They aren't really in a place I would want them to stay. I might see if I can remove them and re-pot them or something in case someone else I know ends up wanting them. I can't picture where they would come in handy for me in my garden... So if anyone in Adelaide wants one, (or more) of these and will pick them up send me a message.
  24. These have self seeded in my front garden. There's actually a few of them. I've been intending to rip them out for a few months but they grow pretty fast and I've procrastinated on it. Would love to know what they are if possible. I thought maybe some kind of acacia but that's just a guess with no substance. ;) [EDIT] - I'm in Adelaide's southern suburbs
  25. I've never noticed flowers on mine but it looks like the buds are well on their way. I hope I've caught them soon enough that they haven't seeded yet.
