T. Pachanoi - Lowes - Thoughts?
EthnoGuy85 replied to magical9's question in Cactus & Succulent Identification
Lowe's gets supplied by Altman Plants for cacti and succulents. They are very hit and miss for Tricho's tho other than grandiflorus hybrids. And Altman's labeling sucks I'm sure they're all just listed as San Pedro-Trichocereus pachanoi -

ID help. came labelled macro.
EthnoGuy85 replied to pinegapcontrol's question in Cactus & Succulent Identification
I'd leave it labelled as macrogonus unless you are of the school of thought that macrogonus is just a Peruvianus. -
Got quite a few crosses of this guy thanks to mushroomman. Hopefully some of these genetics shine through. Such a beaut!

EthnoGuy85 replied to Matt1208's question in Plant Identification (non-cactus)
The native Americans used to take the blooms and cup them in their hands and inhales the fragrance. It's said that it had a euphoria and intoxicating effect. Never tried it myself but always found it interesting -

Looks like Magnolia grandiflora to me. Southern magnolia, native here and the state flower. Grows to be HuGE and are beautiful specimens -

Mine are always planted closely. It's a job getting them all separated but it only slows em down a bit after transplanting. I always make sure the soil is moist so the roots are a little more flexible and the soil easily shakes free of the roots. -

Trichocereus BK09509.2 - Huachuma de Chavin
EthnoGuy85 replied to Getafix's topic in Cacti & Succulents
Growing some out from seed. Will try and get a couple pics of the seedlings up later on. Here's what SS listing has to say about em Trichocereus sp. BK09509.2 "Huachuma de Chavin" Candelabra stems to 10'. Stems to 4" diameter, dark green epidermis, new growth blushed blue. 57 radial spines, the downward facing ones up to 1.5" long. 1 central spine to 2.5". New spines yellow to red-brown in color. Looks intermediate to T. pachanoi and cuzcoensis. Growing on rocky cliffs, western slopes above the north end of the modern town and ancient ruins of Chavin de Huantar, 10,600', Ancash Dept., Peru. -
Yeah took almost two weeks to get them so they've been without for about 3 weeks now.

Got these guys about a week ago. In a windowsill getting diffused bright light. When do I need to water these guys? Was tempted to today as they are starting to look like they need a drink.....
-
I put them in a ziplock with some silica to suck up the moisture. In the fridge indefinitely........
