When my buddy first showed me I thought it seemed pretty off for a trich. I appreciate all the thought you all put into this. Thanks!

Sweet. I'll pick some nice fatty leaves for this. I also have two different clones (or species) of pereskiopsis. I'll try it with both. Keep you updated.

I think I will attempt this too just for shits and giggles. I'll use a bunch of hormones to try and get it to work.

Interesting artical about acidifying your water and feeding with ammonium sulfate

Yeah, I have a community well here which is where i get my water. If i had city water i wouldn't water them with that for ssure. But we definitely dont get enough rain here to be able to water all my plants with. Unless i had a giant collector that took up most of my yard. -

That is an awesome looking, fat plant. I can see why they're called totem pole cacti.

Yeah, I agree with myco. Also, the leaves probably don't have the growth hormones and stuff they need to start growing. I spray a lot of my grafts with GA3 solution (100ppm once a month directly on the scion) Maybe you should do that if you get one to take just to jumpstart it. But I have a feeling that it wont even take in the first place. I guess we'll have to see.

Yeah, I wish I had this plant so I could take better pictures for you guys, but like I said, it is a friend's plant. I was thinking that some of the growth charactaristics don't look very trichocereus to me. I'd love to see a cutting of this in person. Maybe I can get this person to send me one ;)

Here are some kinda blurry, but closer pictures of the plant.

That link doesn't work. I think the beginning is missing. Thanks for sharing Michael.

Some astrophytum caput medusae seedlings. There is also some A. asterias hanazano supar seedlings in the pot too.
-
Interesting. I'll see if I can get some close up areole shots for you.
-
Yep. I've done this before. Had them growing for 6 months before i knocked them over accidentally. *facepalm*

I wish I could look at the plant myself. But this isn't mine. I'll ask the person next time I see them.

Here's my modified set up. It's one of those plastic humidity domes rather than an aquarium. I have a metal cookie sheet on the bottom to to lift up the pots a little bit. And I also put a white piece of shiny white poster board behind it to reflect off light.

I have a non oscillating fan going in there. I may just get one that oscillates now that you mention it. Thanks for the advice.

MSSmith, What do you mean by "main centrals"?

Here's another one. It was from the same nursery. To me it looks like the same clone grown in different conditions. Edited by Moderator! No Discussion about Taste and such please.

Has anyone had success inducing polyploidy in cacti?
hostilis replied to Dreamwalker.'s topic in Cacti & Succulents
Dreamwalker, do you have an account there? I do and I can see it fine. -
Damn. I hope whatever demons he faces are overcome. And I was doing pretty good with mine but i knocked the pot over when the sand was dry and lost all but a few seedlings. I grafted 4 of them and 2 took. One died when i took it out of humidity but the other kept growing. It grew about 4 new areoles and then I had a thrips issue. I soon died after the thrips got to it. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to do it this time again. But i guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Thanks. Cuzcoensis is actually what I thought it was at first too. hostilis

When I get home from work I will post one. Here's my old set up. I have since modified it. But this one is a reptile aquarium with a heat pad under. I put those plastic bins in there to create a gap between the pots and the heat pad to stop overheating. Then I put a 1' T5 light over it. I'll post my modified tank when I get home.

Weird. Well there's a pretty clear difference between aztekium and astrophytum seeds. Azyekium seeds are like grains of fine sand and astrophytum seeds are like pebbles.

Thanks a ton guys,

These fuckers came back. Spotted a few of them. But i'm spraying with pyrethrum and I ordered some predatory nematodes after a knowledgeable person recommended them. I think they wont stand a chance with the nematodes since both of the bugs i'm having issues with have a soil stage in their life. Does anyone know if pyrethrum will kill predatory nematodes?
