I've sprayed multicrop 'BugGuard' insect spray straight onto one of my small peres/loph grafts without ill effects (on the plant).
The active constituent is 8.5g/L Potassium salts of fatty acids.
Oh and good luck with the farm. -
Don't do it! The spray probably contains Pyrethrins/Pyrethroids, which should be what did it.
I killed about a dozen plants with fly spray once attempting to kill earwigs.
I can't actually remember how they died, but large parts of larger plants died and smaller plants died altogether. The plants ended up as a brown shriveled mess, but curiously i just cannot recollect the stages it took to get there, but it was very quick like a few days only.
Well FUDGE! THanks guys! SO it was the ready to spray insect killer. Goddammit, i was actually going to spray everything with it to ward off fungus gnats and caterpillar.
You can't learn without making mistakes.
DOes anyone know of any cactus friendly insect spray?

I just remembered i sprayed it with Mortein natureguard spray
But i doubt that had anything to do with it -
I just have some peat there cause i didnt know where to throw it. It is a soil mixture.

Gtarman are you suggesting i move it to the full sun? The soil if anything was actually dry, this happened to me before but the sun did it so i thought they would be safe in the shade. Plus i got some grafts on them -
I have no idea how this happened. A friend gave me a cactus for grafting, the graft was successful but the scion died from black rot that turned its inside to mush. Now a cactus next to it (the one in pictures) has started to rot,
They are in the shade, it couldn't have been the sun. I cut it out and then applied sulphur.
Also, sould i just cut it off? I cut all around it, can it still receive nutrients?

Second picture: That there is a very nice crest sir, you be extra careful and graft it to the fattest pc pach you can find. Trust me it will be worth it. Any fat columnar cactus with wide spacious vascular ring
I would start grafting the smaller ones to anything i can find. What kinda stock you got lying around?-

The one i had in the soil.... it died, i messed it up somehow. i put in poor soil, so no control group, but i took measurements so I can see how much it grew.

Coir chunks give positive results when used in conjunction with a complete nute solution. It also allows for dry rest periods.
How about vermiculite? Cause i got so much of that.

It should. Sometimes the scion just sits there for months doing absolutely nothing, other times a new pup starts to emerge from the join point of stock and scion within weeks. Try pumping it with crazy amounts of nitrogen and remove peres shoots daily, that should force the scion to grow.
Ok then i will try that. Thing is it would take so long for the seedling to grow until i can cut it in a way that both sides have aeroles.

I made these grafts of seedlings on pereskiopsis. THey are the upside down part of seedling. They have gotten a bit fat but compared to the top-side grafts they havent grown at all, some of them not at all.
Will they ever grow?

Originally i had a loph on the pc pach, but the graft failed so i tried it again with a tiny spach graft that had a variegated astro aerole graft on it -

Nice job. I've started a similar experiment with trichocereus and lopho however started from cuttings rather than seedling. I change the water once a month and it doesn't seem to have caused any problems yet. The lopho cutting growing in water for about the same time as you but the growth has not been as much because of the cold weather (winter) and lower amount of roots. Mine is growth outside using sunlight so the growth should be a little slower than yours due to the amount of light.The trichocereus is already 4 months in and is growing rather quickly despite the cold weather (Just under an inch per month)

Gimli is right in suggesting the use of a black container. I've noticed quicker It's nice that its clear for taking pictures however your roots will grow faster in dark container. Hydroponic lophos seems to be common practice in Thailand.
This can be done with any cactus however you should not submerge any of the roots in the water and only allow the new roots to touch the water. The root tips become 'water roots' allowing the cacti to grow without rotting. http://keinhong.tripod.com/hydroponics.html This website sheds some light into this topic

awesome, can you explain a bit about the nutes you're using & the concentrations etc?
I mix 3ml of some hydroponic liquid in 1 litre of water and give it that. The fertilizer is very very standard, one or two people said to me it was a shit cheap brand.
For the past two weeks it has had only tap water.
I am going to buy proper fert and give it some though. It is under t8 lights for 12 hours a day.
Edit: lol i should also change the water, it looks yuck. :S

I did this i think 4 weeks ago and one of my lophs that was 25mm has grown to 30mm in that period.
I wanted to see what would happen so i tried it with two lophs first to see if they would rot or not. THey didn't so i put them all in. They are under t8 fluro lights.
They are still young i am not sure if they will swell up and look like water balloons like the ones grafted on pereskiopsis.
I do not submerge the entire root in water as i believe that would rot it, the main root stalk is only 1/3 submerged in water.
Will update to see where this leads
This one is my biggest it has some stretch marks on it (the 30mm one)
This one is the control group, it is around 20mm, growing on rocks, i havent watered it properly so it is unfortunately a poor control group.
I do not know the advantages of hydroponic lophs, i am thinking of taking one of the hydroponic lophs that is the same size as another one and placing it in soil and watering it regularly so i can atleast have a proper control group to compare and shit

I took pictures of this graft i made. I wasn't expecting it to survive.
It has been growing way faster than normally on its roots. Can't wait until it grows the human nail like spines

Well, some of them can be pretty nasty. I have a cylindropuntia in my garden and if i would ever have to remove that monster, it would be painstaking. Just moving it from its pot to the hole in the garden made my hands hurt for weeks. They don´t have spines...they have hooks that shoot in your skin and never let go!
What kind of cylindropuntia ? YOu use it for grafting?

I am going to put it in proper soil with space so it can expand, judging by its growth rate in the shitty tub of dry soil it should explode in the big tub. ANd i'll give it to anyone who wants.
I neglected this in my greenhouse, i have never seen it flower, but i touched it and peel it. It is definitely a flower petal

I grafted a loph williamsi var. huizache on the san pedro stock. I sprayed bug spray around the cacti stock. Although my san pedro stock survived it looks worse than Palestine and very ugly.
I will word my post better next time
