Min different soil mixes work in different parts of the world, but generally for lophophora you want to avoid too much organic material and make sure the mix doesn't stay wet. When it's hot i water mine every week or so, but the easiest way to tell if they need water is to give them a gentle squeeze and see how soft they feel

Well that was quick. i am all sorted now thanks guys

hey guys i have a couple of different varieties of papaya growing and have notices something strange going on with one of them. It is a hermaphrodite variety i got from bunnings labled as 'bisexual yellow'. Anyway it has been producing heaps of tasty fruit which has always grown normally like any other type. A couple of months ago i gave all of them some dynamic lifter and applied some lime because the soil was getting a bit acidic. Since then pretty much all of the fruit this plant has produced has had the seeds germinating inside of the fruit. As in when i cut the fruit open to eat, it has a bunch of little pawpaw plants growing inside of it. But none of the other types have done this even though they are growing within a few feet of eachother, and i cant understand why. Does anyone have any ideas why this would be? I understand that there is some type of hormone that plants produce to stop seeds from germinating inside of a fruit, but dont understand why just this one plant is doing this

I know it's an old thread, but i finally got some pics of the fruit with seeds germinating. check it out

I left a degrafted williamsii button upside down for a couple of weeks to dry out years ago and in that time it pushed out a fruit that was white instead of pink -
i would prefer to graft it onto one of the less spiny varieties of trichocereus. i only really use pereskiopsis for seedling and areole grafts
-
no they were grafted on T. pachanoi

i finally degrafted this beast today

there is another one called the soap tree, Alphitonia excelsior (i may have spelt that wrong) which is full of saponins. you can use the leaves to wash your hands and they also have antibacterial properties. i use it all the time when i am fishing or in the bush to keep my hands clean and any small cuts disinfected. there is also some type of acacia that is called 'fish poison tree' in north qld but i don't know which species it is

mu! i am not sure if they count as mid shelf bourbon, but i will say jack daniels, makers mark and wild turkey. i had a few bad experiences with bourbon when i was a teenager and still can't drink it
-
mu! i was talking about the plain old while label stuff that i am sure everyone has tried before. i haven't tried any of the other jim beam varieties. to be honest i am just not a fan of bourbon so would rather spend my money on scotch
