Just would like to verify if I'm identifying this correctly (I need practice)! I found this sucker growing solitarily in my grassy back yard. My guess so far is a destroying angel - amanita bisporigera, but I'd like to check with others more experienced that myself.

cool! any idea what the results might be like? it seems to me like it might be possible to have faster growth with a V-shaped graft, due to the larger surface contact area... but I don't know too well if that's how cacti work.

Don't worry guys, we're moving into the internet age and televised media and propaganda are becoming more and more obsolete. When everyone accepts their own research on the internet as a better source of unbaised (or at least less biased) information, people will start realizing how much bullshit they've been spoon-fed. That is, as long as we keep the internet open and unregulated. Freedom of information leads to awareness, and awareness leads to change... which is why I think it's so important to keep doing our best to stop people like Stephen Conroy from filtering our internet usage. That's the killer issue for me. This facebook page is good to stay posted on this issue, if anybody is interested: http://www.facebook.com/openinternet?ref=ts&fref=ts

Internet forum tip: I always ctrl+A, ctrl+C before I click submit on any big post I make. Good habit to get into, saves a lot of trouble if weird stuff happens/your internet drops out/something.... -
Are you the same person that is asking this?

If a man puts a gosling into a bottle, and feeds him through the neck of the bottle until he is full-grown, how can the man get the goose out without killing it or breaking the bottle? -
The Currency Revolution - With Bitcoin
Scarecrow replied to qwertyuiop's topic in Sustainable Technologies & Ethical Living
Just checked, and currently 1 BTC is worth ~$190 AU holy crapola, so much for prices going back down again after a while. source: http://bitcoincharts.com/charts/mtgoxAUD#rg360ztgSzm1g10zm2g25zv [edit] Here's an interesting article regarding the recent skyrocketing price of bitcoins, if anybody is interested. http://motherboard.vice.com/blog/why-bitcoins-price-is-skyrocketing -
It felt pretty soft and maybe fluffy? Not really the word I'd use. Delicate, rather. As for that link: I'm sure that's a wealth of information to some, but this looks like some kind of cypher to me. I have no idea what I'm reading here -__-

I have access to all the equipment and technical knowledge I need (got a chemist in the family), and I'm actually learning about organic chemistry at the moment as part of my university course. My main interest is to simply learn as much as I can, and I feel like my idea for experimentation would be a great way for me to kickstart that learning process. Of course, I have no delusions about the fact that there are more qualified people around (probably with more interesting research to do) than myself. But like I said; "it surely can't help to try". Which was a typo... I meant "can't hurt to try" haha. Posting my idea just adds the possibility that people might consider helping an eager student become capable of more serious research, rather than relying entirely on existing researchers. I don't know, it makes sense to me. I'll be doing much more research before I actually attempt anything. I am personally interested in learning as much about extractions as possible, and distillation just seems like a good place to start. But you have mentioned that distillation is of limited use... do you have a suggestion of other equipment I should look into? Most extraction techniques I've seen seem to simply use solvents and (occasionally) distillation and/or precipitation.

Right, I shouldn't be hijacking threads anyway. But thanks for the answer! Hmm, interesting. But I've read that the addition of MAOIs to the blend can extend the duration of the experience..? But I'll leave it at that, and make another for more detailed discussion later on (closer to the time in which SWIM starts experimenting).

Only semi-relevant, but: Does anybody know if a smokeable extract can be made from syrian rue using isopropyl alcohol? I am aware that a water extraction can be done... but suppose someone wanted to use isopropyl for extraction such that it could be used in that form for changa? Or would a water extraction be useable to apply the active ingredients to a smoking herb? If so, how?

things are happening finally; bought some pots and propagation trays, labels, plant food, a spray bottle, soil and fertilizer, and a couple plants too. gonna start planting some seeds soon! -
I don't know if I'm up to the standards here, but it surely can't help to try: I would like to experiment with distilling tinctures made from various plants, to get an idea of whether or not various active ingredients will be included in the precipitate. Then, I want to experiment with making combinations/potions (for a variety of uses) that are as non-toxic as possible, and not horrendous to drink. I am also hoping to be able to grow as many of the plants I'm interested in as possible, to a) keep my supply as unlimited as possible, and learn as much as I can about growing in the process. I already have free access to a distillation setup... but I could really use help affording a small but proper greenhouse setup for certain plants (and also some plants/seeds).

Seems strange to want to potentiate a potentiator. I haven't actually managed to find any accounts of psychedelic experiences with Lion's Tail...

i'm a fan of rooibos tea... tons of antioxidants, caffeine free, and alkalizing!

this is crazy, i haven't even finished wrapping my head around the concept of grafting cacti.

Scarecrow replied to bullit's topic in Seed & Plant Swaps
just received mine, thanks bullit :D can i ask what the exact name of these are? i couldn't find any information on a "fiesta" chilli. [edit] just de-seeded them and cut them open to dry... ...and i chewing one of the seeds to see what i'm dealing with. and daaaamn, these pack a wallop! looking forward to growing these! -
did you try 1 hour of physical exercise a day, outdoors, during sunshine hours? does a great job of regulating your energy usage, and sleep/wake cycle. not a quick solution though, this is a long-term-slow-improvement kind of deal. you might still want to try other short term solutions in the meantime. for example, you could make a "sleeping potion" tincture out of some combination of the below (these are from my notes, if anybody wants to add or correct anything to the effects i'd be glad to hear it) - Piper methysticum (Kava) - sedative, anaesthetic - Melissa Officinalis (Lemon Balm) - anti-bacterial, anti-viral, calming/sedative, mosquito repellant - Valeriana officinalis (Valerian root) - sedative, anti-anxiety, treats nervous tension and stress - Scutellaria galericulata/Scutellaria lateriflora (Skullcap) - anti-anxiety, sedative - Leonurus cardiaca (Motherwort) - vasodilator, muscle relaxant, anti-stress, cardiac tonic - Nymphaea nucifera (Blue Lotus flower) - sedating, relaxing - Hypericum perforatum (St John's Wort) - calming, moodlifting, antidepressant, MAOI (?) - Passiflora incarnata (Passionflower) - calming and sedating, MAOI the sedative ones would probably be most useful, followed by the calming ones... but you may want to add other stuff to suit your needs/

nice man, trolling the cops. if they didn't want to be wasting their time they should be spending it trying to catch real criminals instead of people who are growing plants...
