Yes it is. FR991. Very nice plants, Ogun!
  2. Masterful! B is the hero that SAB needs to get this competition going! But also great reps to Wocket & Senior Jefferson for posting updates. Hope you´ll get some of those Matucanas going as well. They are super bad!

I shouldn´t have said that. I really, really hate to criticize someone over pricing. I understand everyone´s gotta live and make money but just look at that seedling. The frustration about the 4-winds flood on my timeline pretty much spoke out of me but it´s important to me that we can disagree on stuff like this without starting an argument. We´re all friends here and I don´t want people to argue over stuff like this. So yeah, took my rage drops and now I don´t care what someone charges for his plants and I don´t care if he´s selling 4-winds cucumbers. None of my business. My personal opinion is that "4 winds" blows into the same horn as "True blue" but I´ll be going to bed now.

    ....................................

I text with the ebay seller all the time, I'm convinced its a Trich hybrid Well, maybe. Maybe not. That´s why it´s problematic to sell seedlings the size of a fudge stick. And even if it´s a Trichocereus, that pricing is way out of line. I don´t sell stuff for cheap either, but 100 bucks for a seedling of that size is not realistic. And sorry if that´s someone you know. This is nothing personal and it´s not intended to be a personal insult against a fellow cactus breeder. It´s just that this whole 4-winds bs gives me the shits. I´ve read that catchphrase at least five or six times this week on Facebook. And most of the time, it´s overpriced plants that just happen to have 4 ribs until they grow another one. Maybe not this time, but charging hundred dollars for a plant of that size isn´t really making it any better. I have absolutely no problem with people who charge a decent price for rare plants and my stuff is absolutely not cheap either. I pay a lot of money for cacti and understand that there are things that just have their price.

    ....................................

Absolutely agree, Berengar. It´s highly unlikely that it´s a Trichocereus. Looks more like a 4-winds Cereus. ;)

    ....................................

Yeah, don´t buy into that 4-winds bullshit! There only are very few plants that stay at 4-ribs permanently. Bridgesii´s and Scops grow and drop ribs all the frigging time and it´s nothing special. This auction shows perfectly how much bullshit the whole 4-winds marketing scheme is. It´s nothing but marketing. It´s not even that rare on Trichocereus scopulicola. Most of them have either 4 or 5 ribs. That seedling in the auction looks like it could drop dead any fucking second.

help ID'ing the "disease" in my trichs

That´s not a disease...that´s corking. Caused by stress and not a pathogenic problem. More of an aesthetic one. The alternative would be scale or a fungal infection, but I don´t think that´s it. Can you scrape it off? If you can, it might be scale. But I am pretty sure it´s corking. Just try to improve the growth conditions to avoid something like that in the future.

    Cactus Collection

Hi Solomon, great to see you posting again! Some very nice and rare ones in between. That CC bridgesii is a Tr. cuzcoensis. CC's T. spp CC4171 looks like a Tr. werdermannianus.
  11. Hey guys, those are great! Thanks. The book is almost done now but still looking for more pics of Knize plants! I appreciate every pic you might want to donate. bye Eg
  12. The KK numbers do not stand for a certain mother plant, but for a region. Which is why great variation has to be expected. There are many shared KK numbers and I wouldn´t be surprised of both of them were collected in the same area, but from different plants.
  13. In my opinion it´s a Matucana type, such as the Sharxx blue is too. No idea if it´s genetically the same clone but it represents the same regional type.

Columnar Flower Buds. Got some ? Post them here.

    Amazing pics, Pinegap!
  15. Hi guys, just a short note to everyone who joined! It will take me weeks to respond to anybody who wrote but I´ll be shipping them out within the next week. Everyone who messaged me until today will get seeds. Again, this is a thanks to all my friends and this great community here. Would be great if you could post pics of the plants in the future. Alright, as of this moment, this giveaway is closed and I´ll start a new one with Tr. tulhuayacensis soon. Anyone who comes across this post too late can always message me and buy some in the shop. That said; everyone who once sent me seeds or plants can ALWAYS contact me and I´ll send sth over! I always remember my friends.

    id on this roadside find?

I agree the dried flowers are not typically for Trichocereus. It´s a little bit too thick for Cleistocactus though. Botanically speaking, Cleistocactus isn´t too far away from Echinopsis and you can breed intergeneric hybrids without a problem. I have a feeling that it might be a Soehrensia, which are a group of plants close to Echinopsis. But they are fatter and have smaller flowers. But I´d propose we wait for new flowers before we say more. This is not one of the common cacti and I´d love to see more close-ups and maybe the owners can provide you with some additional pics or info.

    id on this roadside find?

Could be Tr. huascha but you´d need to see the flowers as well. Hard to ID because many Trichos can look like that, including Tr. schickendantzii, Tr. strigosa and Tr. vollianus. I think I can rule out vollianus and I am currently leaning towards T. huascha or Tr. strigosa/strigosus, but far from being sure and I´d love to see more details of the flowers.

    Need Trich pollen

Hey B, just made a post on Facebook. I´ll let you know if someone has some more pollen.
  19. Evil Genius

Designer Pollen Mixing when hand-pollinating Trichocereus

Pollen mixes are used in case of difficult crosses, such as intergeneric hybrids or self-sterile plants. By using a mix, you can increase the chance that at least one of them can pollinate the flower. That said, I dont think you can get offspring of more than one pollinator in just one seed pod. But if you have enough space, just apply a pollen mix and raise every single seedling from that fruit.

    sina or something else?

Hard to say because the same clone can look totally different depending on the environmental conditions. Do you have reasons to believe that it is that clone. SINA has very broad ribs and is semi-monstrose, just like yours. There aren´t so many clones that look like it, so chances are that it´s really it. But I´d observe it over a longer time frame just to make sure. SINA has really broad ribs, broader than what I can see here. But that doesn´t mean that your plant couldnt grow broader ribs if grown in the same environment. Here is a pic that was posted by Sharxx:

Should I graft a dichotomous LW seedling?

I probably wouldnt graft it, as it looks strong and healthy. I like it when interesting Lophs keep their natural shape. That said, it would probably blow up nicely if you´d graft it. Difficult decision and it depends on how sure you are that the graft will take. I would not make experiments with new stocks on plants like that, so maybe leave it until you have ideal conditions for a graft.

    Super pedro and psycho0 genetics.

Hey Philocacti, do you have an update about the long-spined Super Pedro? It looks really atypical and I´d love to see how it looks now.
  23. The areoles are very typical. Would be surprised if it´s not from that group of plants. Of course there is a relatively common clone that goes around in the US and Australia, but there also are plenty of seed grown plants that probably look exactly like that too. Those plants are very likely Tr. riomizquensis...which was heavily sold throughout the world up until the nineties.

    Trich ID

Very cool beast! It´s more of a short-spined Peruvianus. But the spine growth on that cutting looks fairly normal to me. So yeah, a beautiful Tr. peruvianus.
