Why Fukushima made me stop worrying and love nuclear power

In the early 1900's The technology was invented to transmit power from anywhere on the earth to anywhere else on the earth, efficiently. The problem is two fold: It's hard to meter the power usage to make peopke pay for it, and there's nothing stopping someone from using as much as they want, to the detriment of others. There're enough waterfalls, geothermal energy, wave power, wind power etc to cover the worlds needs - The energy is generated at the site of a natural occurance, pumped into the earth and drawn out where it's required. No conspiracies, no mumbo jumbo, just facts, this is possible and has been possible for over 100 years - why isn't it happening? Because the patents for the inventions are in the hands of those that charge $ for electricity. The reason nuclear power is here is because they get a nice cheap source of power, and still charge you an arm and a leg for it. The devices that use electricity these days could be made much more efficiently too, which would cut down on the demand for electricity a bit. It's pretty easy to see who's best interest it is to make power hungry devices too. I find it all very frustrating. I don't really know enough about nuclear power to make a comment about if it's good or not, but considering there are viable alternatives to both coal and nuclear power, it's a lose-lose argument.

    jwerta's heart break thread!

Jwerta: Sounds like fun! My advice would be, don't wear too much deodorant or aftershave! Just a little goes a long way. Bog: Well there ya go, helping others whilst your feelin blue, kudo's to you and I hope you find your smiles again soon, may the pumpkin be with you. I just finished reading this thread and got a message from my lovely one that said 'Love you XOXO' - I'm passing on the vibes to you all, you're all a bunch of crazy hillbilly plant fondlers, and I love you all.

    Beautiful Tree ID

Maybe knock on the owners door and ask? They might let you take a cutting - it looks like it's had a fair bit of pruning done in the past.

Anyone used charcoal in potting mixes before?

I've heard a fair bit of talk about bio-char - that it allows a huge surface area for those lovely microorganism colonies to thrive in, I've popped some charcoal into my pots before, but my gardening skills are still in the pre-school stage so I'm still just happy if I manage to keep my plants alive... Charcoal is good at absorbing things, maybe the next time I clean the charcoal out of my fish tank canister filter I'll throw some in a few pots and see how it goes? I assume the charcoal in my fish filter has good bacteria in it or it wouldn't work so well at digesting the fish poo... BlownG: Ergh... that is one of the most horrific stories I've ever heard - I think I would have sh*t myself on the spot.

secrets of hand shake, hug, hand kissing and social etiquette

I'm a shaker, hugger, kisser - It just happens at the time, and it's 90% appropriate - unless I'm intoxicated and then it's 90% inappropriate I gave a dude a hug once, I'm usually a full embracing grip hugger, no messing around with a little bump and nudge, I get in and fully embrace. Anyway - I felt the moment after 4-6 seconds and relaxed my grasp but he kept holding, which was kinda weird because I'd felt the moment was long enough - and it's usually me that hugs for to long. He told me "A hug and embrace is meant to allow time for your heart beats to sync" So I hugged him for about 10 seconds or a little more and yeah - it felt good, we synch'd breath and It did feel like we bonded further...

    Kombucha Tea

I'm a bit of a sweettooth so I'll probably try it at various stages through the ferment. Rak: I tasted the juice that the scoby came in - it had already fermented completely, probably over fermented, but it was delicious! Ebay eh? Are there different types of scoby? or is it the same yeast and bacteria in different amounts... I'll utfse and see what I find. I bought mine from Deano GoodBrew! If you're after scoby, I'd recommend buying from him, A. cos he does a good deal and B. he's a fun bloke. http://goodbrew.com.au/ Check him out riding naked serving beer, magic tea and kombucha

Thanks Rahli - that's a great link! Did you have a favourite tea you added or add anything after it fermented such as ginger etc...? I'm anxious to drink it, but it's only been in there 1 day...

    Giant pumpkin contest!!

Using my deep mystical connection to the universe, and with the help of this image... I'm picking up signs on your life line... and directly on your fate line... wait... wait... its coming clearer to me now... Yes, I see it! In the middle of your life line, it is your fate to grow 5 pumpkin plants! The size of which I cannot see, only time shall tell how large thy pumpkins shall grow... OMFG: I just tired to find a funny picture to depict Incogs loins... "Pumpkin Naked" (Google, safe search off) NSFW! The communal brain at its finest?!

    Giant pumpkin contest!!

^ Lol - I actually searched for 'Pumpkin Straight Jacket' and lo and behold, it was the second image across! The images I've found never cease to amaze me, some people must have too much time on their hands haha... I did doctor Incog's image though by adding the Whip-it logo on the side, so I can claim artistic flair with that one. Eth's imagery is one of a kind! Incog: Ooooh... they're some mighty big seeds you got there, but I hear it's not how big it is but what you do with it that counts...

    NEW SHPONGLE ALBUM!!!

I find Shpongle kinda bland and repetitive without ever reaching any kind of pinnacle, it just blobs along. I did enjoy their live performance at Rainbow Serpent 2011, but that was mostly sharing the vibe and excitement of the people around me. I guess for reference I like Angel Tears, Abacus, Gabriel Le Mar, Sun Control Species, Derango, Artifact etc... - I find myself on the dancefloor every single time Neelix is rockin it out - I have no idea what I hear, I just dance for 2-3 hours and my mind disappears I love festivals - I want to go to one right NOW!!! Damn you OP, I have to work in the morning and I'm all in the mood for a party...
  14. I really enjoy conversations with people like that - there's a lot to be said for that deep searching look, and the spark that appears when they see you've got it right. Sometimes it almost feels like they're transmitting the model into your brain with their eyes, like wiring up the right point of view. I can spend hours/days with people like that, they're captivating. If only more teachers were wild eyed crazy wizards, learning as a kid would have been so much more fun and enriching. Comminucation through the eyes could be a whole topic just on it's own - if a picture says 1000 words, a look can fill a library sometimes. Edit: spelled brain wrong hahaha - where's my...

Produce Recipes n tips n stuff

2-4 Lamb shanks Cubed veggies, about 1.5cm-2cm cubes 4 Stock cubes Water Roasting pan with lid Place everything in pan Add water till it's just below the top of the food Put lid on pan and put in oven at 160 degrees Celsius Leave it for 6 hours. Check it at 4 hours and add more water if you need to, but not much... Last batch I did this weekend just gone, I used everything I had on hand at the time which was: 3 Lamb shanks 2 Potatoes 1 Sweet Potato 2 Onions chopped into big chunks 3 Carrots 1/4 Butternut pumpkin 1 Capsicum (Red) 3 Massel beef stock cubes About 1/2 teaspoon of ground mixed coloured pepper corns About 1/2 teaspoon pink Himalayan salt About 1/4 teaspoon dried rosemary Bunged it all in the pan in the oven with water just under the top of the veggies, stirred it a little bit at the 4 hour mark, left it for another 3 or so hours. Came back and had the absolute best fan dangled dinner (and breakfast and lunch and dinner again) ever...

    Giant pumpkin contest!!

The infamous and legendary birthday girl bogfrog generously donated 4 seeds to the cause, so assuming they all sprout, I'll give it a shot - can't hurt, and it'll look fantastic when it comes time to explode it. My mind is a flurry of floating contraptions at the moment. My friend has a raft made of 2 sheets of 100mm Styrofoam glued together, and that holds us both, with sticks and jousting weapons flailing around. I think that'd easily carry a pumpkin bigger than Incogs...
  23. I think we're farmed. I think I'm the equivalent of a cow or chicken to some(thing)one? I look at my fish, and can't help but imagine my own tank surrounding me. This is my fish Well, it's its own fish really, but I feed it and I farm it for its poo. I put the poo on my plants, which I also farm... So what's farming me? Should I pray to it? Does my fish pray to me? Do the plants pray to the fish? I feed the fish, the fish feed my plants, my plants feed me and my fish and my plants (after I compost them), so it seems like a whole lot of praying prey preaching pretty prayers to me. Maybe if I put a donation box between the fish tank and the garden and my mouth I can earn tax free dollars... I really have no idea what's going on... but I like my fish and plants, and I hope they like me.

Found a good spot for the patch... Crazy thought... Reckon it'd be possible to get the vine to grow out over the dam, with the pumpkin on a boat, and possibly get sucker roots drooping into the dam?
