Hi All, I found this growing in my vege garden this morning. It is 10 cm diameter and weighs 50 grams, has blue staining on the stem and some can be seen where the cap has split in the picture. Can anyone give any advice? peace cornilius maximus

I'm still in the learning phase of growing cactus, but I would consider cutting the top off and discarding it??? I had a rot in the middle of a two foot piece of 'roseii' that was about 10 cm long, dirty brown goo in it. I cut it out resulting in two bits of cactus, that have pupped soon enough. peace cornilius maximus

Yeah the same thing happened to me recently. My mix looked allot like yours. I've since transferred them to a sand mix with a little bit of soil (80:20)and they are pumping again. They are still in a takeaway container with the lid on, the sand is most but not wet, in the same spot as before and they have turned green again. I burp the lid most days, and the container sweats up each day and I am now observing significant growth. I did lose a few but 'something is better than nothing'! My theory is that perhaps the roots lack the osmotic potential to uptake water from the coir as perhaps they would in their natural habitat of sand surfaces because they looked like they have had the water sucked out of them????? peace cornilius maximus

I would say that your right PH. Cheers I did just move it out from the shade of a few other plants only a few days ago. I have now put it back into similar lighting conditions. I moved it to be able to look at it more often, but it was really thriving where I had it. Very selfish of me. As long as it aint a virus or something of the sort. peace cornilius maximus

being an orchid, I imagine that you would need the symbiotic fungi in order to get them to germinate???? I know its the case for alot of orchids, but perhaps not all??? herbalistics has them for around 10 bucks, I bought some recently but they look to have died already.

I must agree with atom, I used that khan academy website for chemistry, maths and some biology, particularly genetics. It was very useful. I was tutoring first year chemistry and structural biochemistry at uni this year, and like obtuse said it really is repetitious rope learning.
