"Sports" and "reversions" in crested and otherwise monstrosa cacti

Leaving aside the more specific examples like T.bridgesii and T.pachanoi monstrosa forms discussed in their own threads

I am very interested to understand the sequence of some monsters, I suspect there is a sequence, at least in some of them, accepting that the habitat remains the same. Cutting seems to interrupt the cycles and more importantly the location of the cuttings seems to play a role to the sequence the new cutting is gonna play out. These are hypotheses. Based on observations of growth.

these are cuttings from two monsters from oz. only one of each three seems to be really crest, the others seem to have reverted. its interesting because i havent seen pachanoi monsters that revert to normal. Makes you wanna collect every fuckin possible clone, lol.

What I ultimate understand is that these behaviours and habits depend on each diffent occasion of monstrosity, maybe because monstrosities themselves have different causes.

another example

P1140475.jpg P1140490.jpg

Stenocereus marginatus crest with two reverts, and dichotomous reverts rooted. I wonder... If this Revert grows tall and flower, and fertilised and produce seed, would it carry the monstrosa gene?

same with these

P1140491.jpg

I cut and rooted them off a crest plant, dont remember the name.. Would they ever revert?

Dont know why I find this so interesting.. make you wonder, no?

now here's an hypothetical example:

TPM_schematic.jpg

if we were to spoil this wonderful column of alternate growth, and take a cutting, I say it would be a very different result cutting the red from cutting the orange part. the results include the type of pups produced by the mother as well as the cutting...

in the red occasion we would more likely have monster pups from the motherplant, and straight growth at the cutting after rooting

while in the orange occasion we would more likely expect normal pups from the mother plant and monster growth from the cutting

just saying... oh, the yellow arrows show the points when growth was slowed to the point of stunting

A little input from my side to this interessting topic. I had a TBM revert to columnar growth took a cutting and the resulting pups where dicks again. The cutting sadly got munched on top by a snail but luckyly the resulting pup is a revert again. Hard to say to me what is actually causing it to grow "normal" again but I don't mind at all. :-)

Here we go:

Very cool! I see you're using smartpots with trichos. What your experience? is it worth it or the soil dries out too fast?

Those tbm reverts look legit. The pups look like they burst out from beneath the skin, very different from your normal pupping. Nice work! I have a few grafted chemsha clones that are normal. They look very different from the crested form. I'll update if they revert in the future.

Love the TBM reverts! They very much remind me of a bridgesi I have that was grown from herbalistics seed.
