Torsten Posted February 1, 2005 Here is a pic of Ipomoea cairica, which is one of the 3 main Ipomoea weed species in australia. Note the very distinctive palmate leaves (almost look like hemp leaves). I have seen two patches of plants with perfectly white flowers (identical leaves and habit). Just wondering if this is an albino form or a different species?
apothecary Posted February 3, 2005 Torsten, although you don't live in Sydney, you may be interested to know the entire suburb of Lindfield is covered in members of the Convolucae (sp?) family. I saw several Ipomoea's including the one you show. When you're driving past, it looks very much like the HBWR photo on the SAB store. I had to stop and get out to realise it wasn't. Out of curiosity, do all the Ipomoea's contain psychoactives? I noticed that heaps of them seem to grow the exact same types of flowers, only small variations between the different species, but I'm not sure how indicative this is of psychoactivity... I used to live in sydney (and melbourne) which is why i was surprised about MG's in melbourne, but not at all about them in sydney Out of curiosity, do all the Ipomoea's contain psychoactives? No. Many of the alkaloids are clavines which are not psychoactive.
