Habitat question

Recommended Posts

Hi all

First post so bare with me... Have been noticing 5-6 different varieties of shrooms popping up over the last week or so,

its sydney, parklands, mixed trees mostly eucalypt and sheoak and lots and lots of leaflitter and bark. Just of walking tracks under the trees, but a few inn the grass..

I've got some pics but their not teh best quality... but see if it helps

basically I'm just wondering if I'm looking in teh right places, since there are shitloads of mushrooms around it must be pretty good habitat... what sort of things are good to look out for? can't really get to a cowpatch near here...

'

and do all actives stain blue?

Thanks a bunch

I get mushrooms like in that last picture. Except they are seriously tiny and every time I find them they are already dried out. Could possibly be subs but I'm not 100 percent sure, hell I'm not even 4 percent sure. Good luck hunting man, Gen

Yeah the habitat is great, good looking chips.. third pic looks like Stropharia aurantiaca, not active- slightly poisonous, none of the others are active either and could be poisonous. Forget about cow pastures, you know you're looking for Psilocybe subaeruginosa and Psilocybe subaeruginosa only - right? You won't find anything else in Sydney that's worth eating. They WILL bruise blue (or green on the edges of the caps) but its not always totally obvious, ie:

It should blue near where you cut it:

If you're lucky it will blue on the stem:

but not always:

and the cap itself might bruise greenish/blue, particularly around the edges:
