made 6 grafts of an A Caput Medusae I recently obtained from the Hungary mob,.... did a few on persesk also on trich and on opuntia,....... the ACM to Persk were done by splitting the peresk and also by slicing the stem in half. get a cactus on Ebay and graft the fuck out of it! :D

I'm not very consequent with shaving............ but just the idea of it seems nice..... something that can't get old...... something for someone that likes to take to take the time for himself,.... seems like something a calm and collected person would appreciate. Just the idea seems enough to make me curious to look more into this. thx for bringing it to my attention

see you soon maddafakkahrrrsss!!!!! :D

Is that stenocereus griseus rootstock? If yes,... much better heat and drought tolerance than trichs fo sho!

Hylocereus/epi palm grafts (tasted my 1st dragon fruit)
woof woof woof replied to Dreamwalker.'s topic in Cacti & Succulents
DreamWalker, I think I may have been in contact with that guy from Florida from MassSpectrumBotanicals,.. and yes he has quite a collection. I've also been eyeing that Mattslandscape site for Hyloc cultivars. And where I live,.. we have Stenocereus Griseus. The fruits are kind of nice.... slightly sweet. Not the best fruit producer,... and will probably fruit after at least 4 years. If not for the fruit they make really good as graft stock and are less rot prone then trich's in our climate. If you want to hybridise..... it might be a great idea to graft clones to already big plants,.. then you have the plants next to each other,.. will speed up the graft's growth. And not sure, but maybe get the benefit of being triggered into blooming at same time as the graft stock. < anyone that would like to comment? -

Hylocereus/epi palm grafts (tasted my 1st dragon fruit)
woof woof woof replied to Dreamwalker.'s topic in Cacti & Succulents
There are many varieties of DF. The yellow pithaya is prolly the yummiest. (selinicerues) The red pulp Hylocerues varieties tend to be the best tasting. I have yet to find a white pulp one that impresses me. There is a pink pulp hylocerues which is supposed to be very nice too. Check out the hylocerues cultivar strains like physical graffiti and Haileys comet (which I both goth and are supposed to be some of the better tasting common cultivars around) The Israelis supposed to have developed some super interesting cultivars. I am really looking forward to some of the Selinicereus x Hylocereus strains. -
New In Ground Plants - Suggestions/Insights
woof woof woof replied to magical9's topic in Cacti & Succulents
when I put cacti in pots I usually make the lower layers in the pot more organic with regular potting mixed with the local dirt. the upper layers that support the cactus and thicker roots I make less organic. and then top it off with gravely layer (no organic stuff) the reason I do it this way is because when we get tropical downpours I do not want the base of the cactus to stay in a soggy/wet medium that can support microbial growth and maybe induce bacterial or fungal rot. I want the base of the cactus to dry and let water pass through asap, and be a little more airy than the rest. The lower roots can handle the nutrient rich organic soil much better, and they will grow a bit better too. As I do not know the AZ weather that well, I think it is usually much different than the local tropical humidity. (actually, we are more semi arid, but we do get our tropical downpours from time to time. -

BOOLLIT!!!! :D cool crosses! I live in the tropics,... brugs dont do very well,... daturas thrive here,..... brugs have the right thiness for smoking leaves,..... datura's don't, too thick,..... so I am wondering....... maybe you have the right stuff for hotter climates.

Hey peeps,... wondering at what temperature trich peruvianus / patchanoii / bridgedsii's start setting flower? or what seasonal changes initiate flowering? from winter to spring or spring to summer? fall maybe? darkening of the days or more hours of sunlight? rain? also share an approx. location where you live. I live in the tropics........ it's 32C during the day and 26C at night on average. We do have cooler seasons, but only a few deg C difference,.... slightly shorter days,...1,5 hr difference between winter and summer. I am going to try a couple of things to get them to flower,..... from freezing blocks of water fert, .... cooling em down with AC, more shade,.... ever heard of the birth control pill,.... Just wanting to know so that maybe I can use seasonal changes to my advantage. Like our winter is usually wet,.... but maybe watering and active growth can work against the flowering trigger. most cacti in my experience will flower after a rest period. thx peeps

hah! one of you replying in this thread is probably the same dude!!!

woof woof woof replied to theuserformallyknownasd00d's topic in Ethnobotany
A kind friend of mine came back today from a long trip through S.America,... he brought me P.V. , Caapi and hear this Diplopteries C....... unfortunately the D.C. was in really bad shape and will probably not make it. But here is the good news,... he will go back again in a few months,..... :D And if doesn't go,.. I can order from the guy. With Physiosanitary (& cites) certificate(s). :D -
A new approach on rooting Lophophora
woof woof woof replied to Philocacti's topic in Cacti & Succulents
I air layer pereskiopsis and when it shoots out new roots I cut off the pereskiopsis, allow it to dry a few days then bury the peresk entirely. I avoid burying the graft. eventually the graft will shoot out it's own roots. -
I think I owe this one to MUTANT. (not 100% sure. so many trades) Anyhow enjoy you cactus fiends,.. uhhh I mean friends.... hehhehe
