In some ways it's great he's discovered this side of life while he's still young enough to want to talk to you about it. You have the chance to have a dialogue that I missed out on, with the perspective and wisdom of someone who actually knows what they are talking about. I don't know you or your son, but I'm sure he'll appreciate honesty in your responses.
You don't have to supply him with information, but you can give honest answers, if that makes any sense?

I used to wage war against those big red ones when I was a lad. We would try to blow up their nests, but they were hard to get close to. They would have sentries posted on branches around the nest and they would hit you from the ground and from above at the same time. I have the utmost respect for them, they're not to be messed with.

I agree, it's recreational qualities are slight at best, but it is very relaxing and does seem to have analgesic properties. Not sure I'd rate them as highly as morphine but it is only an extract, not pure incarvillatine. Also it leaves your faculties much more intact than opiates.

Wt, in your climate and soil profile, I don't see rot becoming a major issue. The d00d also has some major sceletium ground covers going around his cacti beds. I took his lead and planted some around mine this year.

Ah hakeas are flowering all over the place around me at the moment, I've never tried to collect seed though. Might be a month or two before there's any pods mature enough.
They do like very poor sandy soil, not sure they'd do all that well in your rich loamy stuff incog.
