strangebrew Posted April 4, 2006 So what's the biggest number of seed peeps have had in 1 fruit, self-pollinated or X'd? I just got 14 self-pollinated.
Guest Mexicali Posted April 8, 2006 37 The older the plants get, the more fruit the seed-pods carry
strangebrew Posted April 8, 2006 Wow 37! That's a good haul. How old a plant was that? I think the most I had up until the last lot was 7 or 8. It just goes to show that it's possible to get good returns without pollen from a different plant. Is the viability lower with self-fertilized seeds?
ramon Posted April 8, 2006 (edited) I have got 14 once. But have also got 1 seed from fruit of the same plant. Initially I made a effort to cross pollinate flowers but did not notice any extra rewards over flowers I completely left alone. I would say that it would average out to 5 seeds per fruit. M S Smith Posted April 8, 2006 Since you didn't mention the species here is an L. diffusa with 60 seed in one fruit. ~Michael~

Yeah, the centenarians produce that much...also highly stressed plants produce lots of seed (they feel they HAVE to propagate so they can have ancestors). So far as viability, absolutely not...I get over 90% strike from my seeds, so it's not an issue
