Mark Pesce to speak at EB3

Recommended Posts

We are extraordinarily lucky to have secured Mark Pesce as a speaker at EB3.

I met Mark at the MindStates Conference in Jamaica last year, and was singularly impressed by his visionary ideals and experience, his deft intellectual syntheses, and the zeal and scope of his presentations.

While Mark isn't speaking directly about ethnobotany, he addresses concepts and trends of thought, a strand of meta-ethnobotany perhaps, or as he put it, the sort of things you think about while you're on drugs :D

For a really thorough tour of Marks ideas and achievements and a more descriptive menu of his tastes in creative mental gymnastics, go straight to:

And for more about Mark's universe, go to:

I'm not as good with words as Mark, the idea of compiling a potted bio of his work leaves me pretty breathless and confused as to where to begin to describe the universe that must whirl around in his head. So a list might just break it down enough to give you an idea as to the man's incredible appetite and capacity for thought and action

Amongst other things- many other things-

* Mark writes for TRIP magazine ( formerly The Resonance Project: http://www.tripzine.com/ )

* He's spoken at several MindStates conferences ( http://www.mindstates.org/ ), where scientists, researchers, artists, and musicians from all over the world gather to present the latest findings in consciousness studies, with a particular focus on altered states of consciousness.

* He is currently working with composer Will Richter, on an opera based on the extraordinary life and untimely death of Terence McKenna called " True Hallucinations"

* In 2001 he co-directed a video called "This Strange Eventful History" to capture the spirit of the Burning Man festival that year

* That year he also compiled another visual presentation, "Becoming Transhuman " "a narrative of what-we-are-becoming,... an affirmation of the positive dimension of human growth, a recognition of the darker side of human nature, and a contemplation of our ever-more-precarious position"

* And in 2000, he wrote "The Playful World: How Technology is Transforming Our Imagination"

* He invented VRML- Virtual Reality Modeling Language- which is now an international standard

* ..and FireUp, a method for using a digital camcorder for high-density, high-speed data backup.

Mark's presentation at EB3 will be "The Scent of the Real (Molecular Rings and Quantum Things)"

He makes your head spin just listening to him. :)

Welcome Mark, we look forward to seeing you here :D ( yay! )
