Jesus.T.Parker Posted February 19, 2004 How can I positivly I.D a pachnoi. Do they happen to look like Cereus Peruvianus?
Absinthe Posted February 19, 2004 To someone who has not had the opportunity to see either species more than a couple of times, they may appear similar. However the main differences I notice are: CP has very pronounced ribs, quite long compared to a pach. Actually probably CP has an acute angle between ribs whereas a pach has an obtuse angle. The colour of a CP is generally darker and greener (emphasise generally here). A pach is generally more "bluey" but different conditions may alter these characteristics. Do a search on google for pictures, and compare the two. You could also try nurseries that specialise in cacti. Jon
M S Smith Posted February 19, 2004 Not that it matters much in this discussion, but Cereus peruvianus is really an inacurate name, the one that C. peruvianus most commonly refers to is C. hildmannianus. This is also the "monstrose" C. peruvianus and "fairy castles" plant. C. jamacaru is also mistaken for C. peruvianus. My MSSPhotography link below offers quite a few shots of T. pachanoi, a plant that once you know what it looks like is realy difficult to miss, or to believe something might be it. ~Michael~
