hypnofunk Posted July 1, 2003 Hi A Gnome friend has been experimenting with smoking dried cactus. The gnome is unsure of cactus type, a five/six ribbed thing from a branching plant with very small spines ( definately not T Pach ) but will post photo's if there is interest. The decision to trial this cactus was a long involved story, but may have been based on mis-information. He said typical effects where definately noticeable, but not intense in any way. Firstly, when exhaled, the exhale seemed to "go down to your feet" - this phrase used by two of three trial gnomes independantly. When exhaled, it seemed to be immediately relaxing, some uncontrollable smiling and later on, on a dim day red objects gleamed out very brightly like a beacon, while all other colours where drab unless strongly ilumminated. Also it seemed to elevate mood and desire to do things, mostly creative. Duration to baseline 15-30 mins ???, though the elevation of mood seemed to remain for hours ? Pre use of MJ may enhance experience, he is still not sure. All this is a little hard to quantify as while there was a definate effect, it didn't "knock the gnomes socks off". Preparation was peel skin, slice off green bits and beat/roll them to a pulp ( this reduces the end volume of material than if put in entire ), put green slimey bits into food dryer and dry. When totally dry crush/crumble and smoke. Smoke deep and hold, hard for non smokers. Total time to prepare 1-2 hours. Other preparations seem more promising in terms of ease of use, an interesting one is to rub the crumbly residue on the palm forcefully with the thumb and then roll together to create a substance like "cactus hash" which seems quite pleasureable to smoke. Initially a pipe was used, and then a water pipe trialled. He said it seemed that the water pipe did not alter the experience, but not sure. He also experiemented with total combustion as opposed to lighting a small corner of the cone to create a "variable heat zone" thru the cone. The gnome had two gnome friends who confirmed the resuls. More experimentation is in progress. Currently different parts of the cactus are being seperated by physical methods and tested. A full posting with pics, etc may be made if there is sufficient interest. Can anyone give any advice/experiences ? Would anyone like to try with known species of knwon potency? eg T. Pach. or T.
