Aloe Vera

Recommended Posts

The Aloes are not in the cactaceae family and are thus not cacti. They are relatively closely related to the lilly family.

Here's the cactus/succulent rule:

All cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are cacti.

The term succulent is used to represent a plant that stores water in its body, tubers (roots), or leaves. In the botany field there are still a lot of disputes about what plants fit the bill. Some are of course obvious, but others less so.

Here is something I read lately

Only true cacti have spines growing from little raised discs called areoles.

The succulents if they have spines do not grow from the areoles.
