Acacia Posted September 20, 2019 What a monster. I saw it peaking over the fence and knocked on the door to see if I could nab a cutting. The home owner obliged and gave me a pup. She's enquiring with her landlord about selling me the whole plant. Any idea on the value of this (AUD)?
Micromegas Posted September 21, 2019 that's an interesting plant. Could be a very well grown 'sausage plant' (which terminates like this one has done at the top of both columns), and the shade is giving it the really frosty look (in hard grown conditions it does not have that quality), but it might be something new. value? sausage plant is pretty common around the place, so maybe $100 bucks whole plant tops. But if it's something new and the frostiness is a trait and not a product of growing conditions, more, maybe $1 per 1cm... I am however leaning toward a shade-grown sausage plant. Acacia Posted September 21, 2019 Cheers Micromegas, I've got a sausage x something or other from Gimly but it's just a baby. Here's a close up of the pup that my neighbour gifted me, maybe it can further your ID a bit. Also while I've got yaz here, is this the long variation of TBM that is said to be scarce? And what's the skin damage from / can I fix it?
Micromegas Posted September 22, 2019 Interesting. I don't think that's sausage but the fact that it terminates is unusual, maybe it got damaged in a heavy frost or something one year. That's a nice plant you have there. long form tbm is not in my entourage so I don't really know what it looks like, but that looks standard tbm to me (because of the spine clusters). should through a pup soon. 1
Strontium Dawg Posted September 22, 2019 If you didn't pay $500 plus for that tbm, it's highly unlikely to be long form! Have you seen what this white whale goes for down here?

And what's the skin damage from / can I fix it? The skin damage is from humidity most likely, it happens a lot for me up in the tropics... Just a note, that maybe you know already but i feel drawn to share. If they are fresh cuttings, let them heal for at least a couple of weeks before putting them in soil to root. And when you do put them in soil, make sure it is bone dry for at least a month... It looks like your soil is wet and slow draining... If you use sand, make sure its gravel size...
Acacia Posted September 23, 2019 (edited) Cheers mountain goat. I've just potted them up with sand, soil and cacti mix with a little coir. I put rocks in the bottom of the pots to encourage draining. What's a cheap gravel sized soil alternative? All of the ones I've got in pots atm are already rooted. I'll make sure to do that with the cuttings i've taken as I did pull out quite a few that had been sitting there rotting all winter because I didn't do this properly. MountainGoat Posted September 24, 2019 I don't know what's good where you are. I use volcanic rock, locally (<50km) mined called quincan... Or I sieve out the fines from my local river sand...
