This study investigates the subjective experience of a kambô-session

In the past couple of years, more and more people have gained interest in kambô, a treatment with the skin secretion of giant leaf frog (Phyllomedusa bicolor) that is found in the Amazon and has been historically used there for healing rituals. There is hardly any scientific data on possible benefit or possible risk of this treatment. This first larger online survey on kambô questions people that have experienced kambô. We asked questions about kambô motivations as well as about the acute and longer-term effects of kambô experiences. The aim of the study is to better understand subjective motivation and effects, as well as benefits and risks of a kambô-treatment. This study was carried out in the research field of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy of Charité, Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Charité Campus Mitte.
