QUOTE

The Australian Government will introduce a new Serious Drug Offences Bill when Parliament resumes next month to target several major areas of commercial participation in the illicit drug trade, the Minister for Justice and Customs, Senator Chris Ellison, said today.

Addressing the 8th National Chemical Diversion Congress in Melbourne, Senator Ellison said the Law and Justice Legislation Amendment (Serious Drug Offences and Other Measures) Bill 2004 would be introduced to Parliament to amend the Criminal Code to cover trafficking, import and export, manufacturing (including cultivation) and possession involving controlled drugs, controlled precursors and controlled plants.

"Importantly, this Bill will include specific offences with tough penalties to crack down on people who involve children in the illicit drug trade, including 15 years jail for supplying any quantity of controlled drug to a child," Senator Ellison said.

"Under this legislation, those who involve children in trafficking a commercial quantity of illicit drugs will be punished with a maximum penalty of life imprisonment, and people who expose children to drug or precursor manufacture will get a maximum penalty of nine years jail," he said."

so that's 15 years for selling drugs to under 18 yr olds, & 9 years if you have minors in the same property as a grow room. (possibly that's over exaggerating, i think it will be at the cops discretion---still looks bad though)
