zed240 Posted July 16, 2014 Hi All, I'm quite curious as to whether M procera has ever been found and properly identified in Australia? The only article referred to on the wiki page for M Clelandii states that all previous described collections from within Australia of Macrolepiota konradii, M. gracilenta, M. mastoidea and M. procera are all actually synonymous with Clelandii which is identifiable by it's different spores and pileus covering to true procera. Link to the paper is below. The full PDF is available on the page I have linked. http://www.publish.csiro.au/?paper=SB02013 So, does anyone know of M procera being properly identified and documented to occur in Australia? Or are all collections really just M clelandii that people have labeled as procera? I have found what I believe to be M Clelandii in both native areas and deep in pine plantations with no natives in the near vicinity. I have included pics of some native-found suspected M Clelandii and some suspected M CLelandii from pines. (I have spore prints from both if anyone is offering to do comparative microscopy BTW) From natives And these were from deep in a pine plantation.
Zen Peddler Posted July 17, 2014 My guess is clelandii - either way the caps battered and deep fried are ok.
zed240 Posted July 17, 2014 Yep, I have fried them up once and they were great. But I was more wondering if Procera is known to be found in Australia rather that asking what mine were. I just know people seem to like pics on posts, me included.
Zen Peddler Posted July 17, 2014 Bruce Fuhrer seemed to think it was in Australia but my guess most are clelandii
