emcat Posted April 16, 2014 So I discovered yesterday that cats are very attracted to amanita muscaria. I left some out in the sun to dry for a couple of days. They'd been there a day or so already when I discovered a bunch of them had disappeared. Near by there was some vomit with mushroom chunks in it and a very happy drooly cat. Fortunately I think he vomited out most of it before it was absorbed because he stopped drooling after about an hour and seemed pretty normal after that. Apparently cats are attracted to the fishy smell. I liked his choice of taking them right before the lunar eclipse. Anyway, I ended up doing a lot of reading. Most cats and dogs survive even high doses of the mushrooms. One of the main risks seems to be over treatment by owners or vets. Dogs being put down because they are having seizures and are in a coma, even though they are most likely just to recover in time. Also giving atropine or benzos to the animals and making things worse.
