Trichocereus pallarensis

These were all grown by me from Sacred Succulent seed. I suspect some outcrossing with other species. The first two look like the proper species, the second two look like they might be a cross with T. terscheckii (and their girth in comparison to the others might support this), while the last two look like they might be crosses with T. candicans.

Here's one of the candicans-like T. pallarensis in bloom. Believe it or not, in my twenty years of growing Trichocereus this is the very first nocturnal bloom on a columnar I have ever had, this even though many of the other T. pallarensis are quite a bit larger. I am so happy and can't wait for the other buds to grow. Maybe I can even make a cross.

Congratulations on your first flower! :D

The plants are really nice too. I suspect that if there was an outcross, I advance the hypothesis it was with one species, and the offspring are just multi-modally distributed.

I was lucky enough to be sitting outside at dusk admiring the flowers to see a rather large moth come and flutter about them. I never made any attempt to pollinate the plants myself and was happy to see that the flowers never fully dropped and are going to offer me some seed.

I'm going to get this into a significantly larger pot next year and let this thing grow out a bit more and maybe offer me another nice show.
