migraineur Posted December 12, 2012 (edited) Hi I thought I'd try to make a cutting from an almost severed piece of B. Caapi. However, I am unsure how many leaves I should leave on it and whether I should cut the leaves in half to reduce perspiration. The cutting currently has 4 leaves. Two of them have been cut in half and the other two are in their original state. The cutting it in a humidity dome and has a fluoro grow light shining on it. Can anyone tell me if I should cut any leaves off or trim them? Edited December 12, 2012 by migraineur
Zaka Posted December 12, 2012 Irie, No leaves are needed, at all!!! In fact you only need a single node. But it sounds cool the way you have it! The leaves usually fall off anyway! New shoots will sprout from the nodes. Respect, Z
Alice Posted December 12, 2012 I usually just have 1 section, two nodes. The lower node in the potting medium; the upper, above. Cut the two leaves on the upper node back to a 3cm stub. But as Zaka said, they usually fall off anyway. There is enough stored energy in the stem to throw out roots without any leaves. But I think leaving a little bit of leaf is perhaps of benefit, the cutting probably usues the sugars in it for an extra boost before the leaf stubs are shed. Anyway, everyones method is a bit different, sounds like you've got it covered. Should be fine mate.
migraineur Posted December 13, 2012 Thanks. I might trim the two leaves that haven't been trimmed yet. I hope this thing works.
