How Many Leaves Should Caapi Cutting Have?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I thought I'd try to make a cutting from an almost severed piece of B. Caapi. However, I am unsure how many leaves I should leave on it and whether I should cut the leaves in half to reduce perspiration. The cutting currently has 4 leaves. Two of them have been cut in half and the other two are in their original state. The cutting it in a humidity dome and has a fluoro grow light shining on it.

Can anyone tell me if I should cut any leaves off or trim them?

Irie,

No leaves are needed, at all!!!

In fact you only need a single node.

But it sounds cool the way you have it!

The leaves usually fall off anyway!

New shoots will sprout from the nodes.

Respect,

I usually just have 1 section, two nodes. The lower node in the potting medium; the upper, above. Cut the two leaves on the upper node back to a 3cm stub. But as Zaka said, they usually fall off anyway. There is enough stored energy in the stem to throw out roots without any leaves. But I think leaving a little bit of leaf is perhaps of benefit, the cutting probably usues the sugars in it for an extra boost before the leaf stubs are shed.

Anyway, everyones method is a bit different, sounds like you've got it covered. Should be fine mate.

Thanks. I might trim the two leaves that haven't been trimmed yet.

I hope this thing works.
