Entheo Posted May 3, 2005 Hi Smogs smogs: i would b interested to see how that goes... also while we are in this seciton and topic does anyone know any info about a tree that the Aborigines used to drink colelcted sap at the base after it had fermented? i remember seeing that on a bush tucker man or something simular years and years ago its Eucalyptus gunnii, the Cider Gum.Its probably one of the most popular gums in the UK due to its cold tolerence, as it grows on the mountains of Tassie. http://trees.stanford.edu/ENCYC/EUCgun.htm "Specimens of that species called the cider-tree, from its extruding a quantity of saccharine liquid resembling molasses. When allowed to remain some time and to ferment, it settles into a coarse sort of wine or cider, rather intoxicating if drank to any excess." yep, this one is also in the book (in the sap wine chapter), and someone in Gippsland, Victoria has a plantation as they hope to harvest the syrup. nabraxas Posted May 4, 2005 i've never tried Aussi meads. i gave up after sampling various meads in the UK--mainly Cornwall. none ov the meads i've tried since have ever compared to the first mead i sampled. Lindisfarne(Holy Island) mead made by the monks (the same guys who made the Lindisfarne Bible That mead was more ov a honey liquer--& boy did it slip down smoothly--whereas most ov the meads i've tried since were more honey beers---nothing like "the real thing" ---for a description ov how mead & the honeymoon are related, click the first link.
