Adelaide voted nation's most liveable

Recommended Posts

Lolzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

there's only one real good reason I can think of to live down here, but anyway:

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/south-australia/adelaide-voted-nations-most-liveable/story-e6frea83-1226309173646

ADELAIDEANS have voted their city the most liveable in the nation for the second year running.

Its affordability, healthcare and clean, attractive environment are considered its best assets.

The Property Council's nationwide My City: The People's Verdict survey, conducted by Auspoll in December 2011, asked 5231 Australians to judge their city's performance in 17 areas, including design, safety, education, housing and government.

Adelaide came out on top for the second con- secutive year, with the 604 residents surveyed in Adelaide scoring the city top marks for our liveability.

But a negative perception towards job opportunities, education and public transport infrastructure saw it lose ground to Canberra, Melbourne and Perth.

The poll's standout findings, released today, include:

ALMOST three in four locals see Adelaide as an affordable place to maintain a good standard of living;

FEWER than half - 48 per cent - believe that Adelaide has job opportunities, which was the worst result for a mainland capital city;

OUR lowest ranking was for public transport, with just 42 per cent of people saying Adelaide had a good service;

ADELAIDE ranked highest for good health services - with 67 per cent satisfied with our healthcare;

69 PER CENT believe that Adelaide has good schools and educational facilities, which is just below the 71 per cent national average;

ADELAIDE slipped when it came to entertainment, with 68 per cent agreeing the city has a vibrant cultural scene, down from 75 per cent of those surveyed in 2010;

FOUR out of five respondents believe our city has an attractive environment that also encourages a wide range of outdoor activities.

Residents were dissatisfied overall with the State Government's performance, particularly in terms of property taxes and making housing affordable. But most respondents felt that Adelaide had a good mix of housing types and was a safe city to live in.

Property Council of Australia SA executive director Nathan Paine said the survey proved Adelaide had many of the qualities that make a city liveable, but it also "shed light on where we have room for improvement".

"Adelaide rated highly because we succeed in the areas most important to us - diversity and affordability in housing, good health and trans- port facilities and a clean (and) unpolluted environment for our kids," he said.

"But the main thing holding us back - and the main reason other capitals are catching up on Adelaide for liveability - is a perceived lack of vibrancy in terms of entertainment options, as well as career opportunities."

The Property Council conducts the liveability survey to determine the community's attitudes towards options for housing growth, the performance of state governments in planning and managing urban growth and the federal government's role in developing cities and regional centres.

Telling me everything I already knew. My favourite thing about Adelaide is how quiet it is. I'm not a fan of the hustle and the bustle.

Oh man I went to Wilmington yesterday, that was a whole new kind of quiet lol and the night sky was amazing, pitty it's a good 3-4 hours away from civilisation, good place to retire me thinks.

Vual, yeah fines are hefty but it's still cheap to get, apparently.

I think the way they did the voting worked was all the states had to rate their own services, and adelaidens are the happiest with their services, making it the most liveable.

But yeah, media love twisting shit lol

Can you get out of Adelaide and into the bush within an hour by public transport ? We really hate Sydney and want to live somewhere more tranquil in the next couple of years but still have to sell our souls to the man like cheap whores.

Is there even bush in the outskirts or is it all barren hillside ?

Thats what i like about Adelaide, you can be in lush bush/hills 7km from the city centre

You got the Adelaide hills on the outskirts of the city, it's far from barren though I'd love to live around there it's beautiful :)

But yeah, if you drive north for about a hour you'll get to some scrub, furthest you can get by train is gawler, people still call gawler the stix though.

You can also catch a bus to Mt Barker or a slightly-less-public-transport-and-way-more-expensive bus to Murray Bridge.

but not by public transport, at least not easily. it took only 15 minutes to get from my parents house to my favorite mushroom spot, by car.

i come from the rad initially, and it doesn't surprise me adelaideans voted adelaide the best to live in.
