Delilah Posted November 5, 2011 Hi I would love to grow some Moonflowers near the house where we can see and smell them bloom in the evenings, but is this a safe thing to plant in an area where pet dogs hang out? My dog does tend to pick up interesting objects and so might chew, or at least play with, the big seeds. In your experience, do dogs do this and how dangerous is it for them? (Sorry for my ignorance; I know almost nothing about these plants so thought I'd ask in a forum where people know a lot!) Thank you
MORG Posted November 5, 2011 Hi Delilah, Nice to see you caring for your dogs so much! I don't think you've got anything to worry about. The seeds are not very appetizing, especially for a carnivore. They'd probably have to eat dozens of them to ingest enough alkaloids to have an effect, and the alkaloid (LSA) is not highly toxic at quantities present in seed. Go ahead and plant and enjoy your moonflowers! M
