Found some cactus, trying to ID

Question

New to growing cactus, in the past I thought they where all weeds like prickly pear, iv'e been reading lately and now I know this is not true, ha ha.

Iv'e found 4 seperate cactusus growing in my area, I have no idea what they are but they seem to be growing quite well with a few broken columns on the ground from some recent wind.

I was thinking about rooting these and any help as to what they are would be greatly appreciated. Here are some pics.

The first cactus, with a close up, it looked to have some hair at the base of each needle

The second, a massive cactus, this one had heaps of dropped limbs and babies growing around it, there was some huge damage a year or 2 ago where multiple limbs broke of, much thicker than my leg.

Could see and hair around needles

I think the last 2 are the same.

The first to looked different to each other up close, might be a bit hard to see in the photos.

Wicked well thanks for your time.

All four are Cereus species.

Sorry I can't help more than that I don't know the genus too well.

Hey neighbour!

I recognised that watertower as soon as I saw it. I even have nearly the exact same picture of that second monster specimen:

The easy way to tell that they are all Cereus is from 2 features:

1) The ribs are "sucked in" to the max. Trichocereus ribs are much fatter. The cross-section of pachanoi and peruvianus are very distinctive and can even be used to tell those two apart. Peruvianus ribs meet with a sharper point than pachanoi usually. It's best to look at pictures to learn the cross-section of a pachanoi versus a peruvianus.

2) The columns are growing in sections, a healthy Trichocereus will grow continuously (there might be a thinning if it had some mild trauma, but it will almost always never be that sharp inwards bend on a Cereus). You can tell a Cereus by its silhouette quite easily.
