MarsOfOld Posted May 17, 2005 Is it possible for two plants to cross if they are somewhat similar? Specifically: ------------- #1 Desmanthus Illinoisis and Mimosa Hostilis, #2 Acacia Maidenii and Acacia Phlebophylla, #3 Acacia Maidenii and Acacia Simplicifolia #4 Acacia Maidenii and Acacia Complanata ------------- Desmanthus is cold-hardy and easy to raise, but has much less desirables than the tropical Mimosa. Phlebophylla is very fragile and hard to raise but has desirable goodies. Likewise Simplicifolia and Complanata have desirable goodies but are tropical. Maidenii is easy to raise. Could these groupings cross-pollinate? If not, could a Phlebophylla be grafted onto a Maideneii root to insure long-term survival?
waterdragon Posted May 18, 2005 acacia phleb has been known to hybridise with two other acacias. can't recall currently, someone here definately knows, you may have to create a fuss - light a fire or something. always brings someone.

Its just that no-one skillful enough has tried yet probably. I wouldnt thing they would be easy (acacias) but if the reward is there...
