Heffa Posted February 20, 2011 Found this just today actually in the far corner of my property. Very large maybe 8 metre tree, not very thick trunk or stems. Bright violet fruits with a brownish white flesh, not much of a scent, i have a horrible virus at the moment so all i can really smell is plant material. My father seems to think it maybe a native plum or something and claims he has seen it before. Would be sweet if we found yet another fruit tree on our land. Any ideas? thanks heaps :-)

Heffa Posted February 20, 2011 Well i haven't tried it yet, just in case. I thought Davidson Plum had red flesh? and this fruit isn't as dark as Davidson's.
volcanicplug Posted February 20, 2011 (edited) Hi Heffa, pretty sure its a White Beech (Gmelina leichhardtii)... this species is in the Lamiaceae (mint) family... Davidson Plum has compound leaves... Edited February 20, 2011 by volcanicplug
