Amazonian Posted July 13, 2010 (edited) I think you can grow Shiitake on compressed straw. Or have you been down that avenue? Edited July 13, 2010 by Amazonian
omsource Posted July 14, 2010 CERES will be harvesting a ton of oak logs in the next month or so, specifically for shiitake cultivation. I'll PM you when it happens!

I havent tried straw to be honest, I would prefer logs as hey are easy I have 50 shittake dowels I got from Omsource and they recommend using oak logs as they last longer and dont root out as quickly as euclyptus . I cant wait to eat some home grown shittakes
Zen Peddler Posted July 17, 2010 Mate dont bother with Oak - shiitake are farmed off Eucalypts in Brazil and grow well off thin barked eucys (im trialling regnans and mountain grey) and grow GREAT off black wattle/blackwood
