well the mushies under my poinsettia out the back have been flourishing for a few days as well as all the parks etc filled to the brim with some form of mushrooms that don't look like fun ones ;) mite get some to truy and id the mtho just for kicks.

so yeah see the pics belowe for the bizzare ones coming up under my poinsettia, they are so brittle that if i even touch them they fall apart. they are translucent as well.

and now for some of the goodies from the old faithful dung-lover spot. for the most part Panaeolus (cyances i think but not sure) however there were some slightly different onces down there. both of the bluing type and these two giant coppery ones which have blackened a bit(burn or something from the sun???) i am taking a cam back down there today to get some shots in the wild of all the different types and will be doing a stack of sporeprints tonight in n attempt to positively ID these babies. Wondering if i should try and grow some here at home, i got a humidity dome etc :) mite just even bring a whole cowshit back with me and chuck it in there to see wat happens.

also we made sure to spread as many spores around as was possible. hehe should make this paddock plentiful further down the track.

I had around 25g fresh and i have to say it was an extremely intense trip. I watched the carpet turn into a 3 dimensional mountain range and pieces of paper float into the air. Had a period for around 10 minutes where the whole world appeared to be vibrating/beating in sync with my heartbeat, was a very enlightening experience overal, was spent with a friend but i think this would be a good trip to have in on my own, i had some pretty crazy thoughts running through my head andjust found that i was zoning out of reality too much to socialise(maybe a lower dose in future) Honestly a better trip than i have experienced from most drugs i have tried. Bravo, this was my second trip and i can tell there will be more to come... going to get a crapload today and dry them out for future use.

and finally the plate of non-stainers that we left and will be getting some fresh. look at the giant one. it is coppery but has been "burnt" no staining so it got left on the plate for safety reasonons. i dont want to take any chances with my health ;)

pics 2 & 3 look mostly like some nice pan cyans. the last 3 pics are inactive panaeolus spp which commonly grow alongside pan cyans

If you can grab a bag of cow pats while you are there do it :) put em under a tree in your yard that needs a good fert. Mates used to do this, put em under their mango tree I think it was, give em a squirt with the hose every now and then and you got a fungal jungle at home. Lovely to watch them grow - you lucky queenslanders.

peace

was thinking about this, i got a climber at the back of my backyard garden which lets a bit of light through could put a few behind it thatway they are partially hidden, get partial sun and yeah. Sounds like a plan i might end up doing that... I got a few spare fishtanks, could knock up a chamber of some sort to leave out back too... made a house for my seedlings in one previously... I will be taking some sporeprints off the fresh ones i got today, what is a good thing to take them on for being able to mail them to someone etc ??? i thuoght about a laminating pouch but the glue mite get mixed in or something... im going too google it now and see what i can find, if anyone wants a print let me know.

The black "burns" could be spore shadows? About the 25 grms you took. Dried some cyans recently and found that they do not reduce by the 90% I keep reading about. 2.5 gram shrooms were often more than .3 grms dried. So your dose was likely to be 3 to 3.5 dried weight. Sounded good.

cheers all, and as for the weight i foud a calculator on a website somewhere which estimated taht we should do roughly 20g wet of Cyans but 25 g was exactly 1/3 of what we bruoght home so we split it into three piles. also reptyle i cant read anything on that page you linked me too :( different language.

I work tonight and finish at 4 in the morning (just before the sun comes up) going to take a drive back down to the paddock and get me some shit for the abckyard. Going to get my own colony of mushies going so i dont have to go onot someone elses land to get them :)

also just wondering it i got other mushies popping up around my poinsettia maybe putting some dung under it would be wise as the conditions obviously suit mushies. what do you guys think as far as a homefor cyans ??? in a fishtank with gladwrap over or semi-shaded spot in the corner of my yard or under my poinsetia(in a pot) or i could try all three :)

I would definately go with a pile of shite in your backyard somewhere under a tree or something that has low hanging leaves. The reason for the low hanging leaves is that the humidity will stay higher there than in the full sun IMHO. I think that if you put them into a fish tank or plastic container it would turn into a bit of a shitty mess, (pun intended).

Perhaps covering the pile of shite with some straw i.e. mulch might help things along a bit too... not a massive amount of mulch but just a nice covering.

I am sure there are others here that are willing to share their knowledge on the joys of 'watching' mushrooms grow in their backyards.

*best way I have found of taking a spore print for preservation purposes is to use tin foil / alfoil take the print directly onto a rectangle that will, when folded make a square the size of the print. then fold the edges of the square, (like 1mm all around) and then place this whole square into another piece of foil which will serve as the package so to speak. You can then use a bluntish pencil or some such to write on the foil the collection date and what species of shroom you have identified it as.

hope this helps.

peace

If you're stepping into the wild world of cultivation take baby steps and start with Cubensis, Pan cyans are notoriously fussy and can easily contam/stall when growing.

As for printing a wild mushroom, the most sterile way you can do so is to collect a mushroom that is stretching the veil but hasn't broken it yet. You take this home careful not to let it dry out too much or disturb the veil and put it into a glove box. You then use a sterilized scalpel to cut the stem and tear the veil. You then proceed to place the cap on some sterilized alfoil and cover the whole thing with a sterile glass/cup.

Today's word of the day is STERILE.

Very nice work and the aussie varieties seem keen on agar and on a nice cow pat substrate mixed with vermiculite.

You also have very good peripheral veinous blood flow judging by your veiny hands LOL

Hey all i got another quick question for everyone from my gnome. He wants to know if "boiling down" mushrooms will adversely affect the strength compared to making tea regularly... I.e. he would like to start with say 3 cups of water and end up with a very small amount of liquid soas to have smaller amounts needed for dosage.

He said that he would leave the mushrooms on a very low simmer for around 2-3 hours before nudging the heat upto a boil to get some evaporation happening.

Also would a coffee filer remove the spores from the mix ??? he found that last time he tried this method of cooking down it went to sludge from what he assume would be the spores really early. And a foul black colour. anyone whos friends have triied either cooking right down or filtering pleease please please help my poor little gnome !
