NT - ID required for potential C. Cyanescens [solved:panaeolus antillarum]
Farmer88 replied to complex's question in Fungus Identification
Cyans have a slimmer stem than those you found. If in doubt, store them on a cool place for two hours after you have trimmed the roots off. Deliberately crush stems on some of them. If they are active you will see clear blue bruises. I never put any in the dehydrator before leaving them sit and 'develop'. I learned a lesson a few years ago when I found a half kilo of cyans after heavy rains, I discovered that Conicibes (not good to eat at all) were harvested amoungst the cyans, growing on the same pat. I was grabbing several at a time. Really hard to spot unless you inspect every one of them, particularly for bruising. -
I have been mucking about with permaculture for 20 years. Mostly procrastination. After watchin it all happen and not happen, I have noticed that the systems e.g. food forests etc, are more persistant than humans and their relationships. Usually the family moves on, couple divorces, sickness intrudes etc. Then the next owners or custodians of the farm don't care and bulldoze the lot. So permanent agriculture can only happen where it is owned by an organisation capable of lasting longer than people.

Well found some cubes, but the effort confirms the season is different. They are out there but not in big numbers. Have a feeling that they might have a brief flush before it cools more.. The day length is shortening noticeably from one day to the next.

Fate, went for a stroll this morning not looking for shrooms, saw something about 15m on the neighbors side. Shimmied under the electric fence to score 6 meanies, probably about a gram dried. I should complain more. Going hunting tomorrow.

Thanks for the offer, might take you up on a field trip one day, have some relatives there about. I'm a few hours north of you. I have the pleasure of hunting on my place...normally. But seriously the conditions are just different this year. Still hoping for a late flush and I don't need a lot to get me through the year.

Farmer88 started following QLD Cube season

After years of reliable hunting, this year I have not found one cube and very few of the usual non-actives. Wondering if it's just my area? Let's face it it has been a different season, floods and I suspect way cooler ground temperatures. What has been the experience of others in SE QLD/Nth NSW ?

yeah well I'm off I think. After using other forums for years this one feels a bit constrained and cautious. That makes others think there must be a good reason for it, not obvious to newcomers. Just got to work out how to kill my account....

The black "burns" could be spore shadows? About the 25 grms you took. Dried some cyans recently and found that they do not reduce by the 90% I keep reading about. 2.5 gram shrooms were often more than .3 grms dried. So your dose was likely to be 3 to 3.5 dried weight. Sounded good.
