mark80 Posted June 1, 2009 Has anyone heard of these grown in FNQ? its getting cold here and was wondering if anyone had any reports about there growth>?
~shameless~ Posted June 1, 2009 This info here is coming from a victorian, but i think you should have no problem with germination & growing. ( if sowing now) They may stress a bit and become infected with aphids as the weather gets warmer But i think by the time mid August comes around the temps and weather up in FNQ would probably lead to quick, smaller and poorer flowering than poppies grown down here obviously. But in the case of -iceland poppies cultivars-, you would still get good colour and worthwhile display but i think its unlikely you would get specimens that would be suitable for pictures on "get well soon cards" and still life paintings. elfwhisper Posted June 2, 2009 a friend in a colder bit of the ath tablelands has no troubles. also heard vague reports of successful cultivation by the chinese during the palmer river gold rush. personally no luck past germination though very little effort was applied.
