securinin

Recommended Posts

The structure of securinin:

http://www.chemie.fu-berlin.de/fb/fb96/pl7.gif

This alkaloid is contained in several species from de genere securinega( = fluggea). It is suspect to be a mild estimulant( i cant remenber where i have read this information).

I am interested in it beacause there are a securinega specie (S. tinctoria)this plant grows wildly in south of Spain.

I don't have my data cards with me but I seem to remember it has adrenergic effects.

A www.freetranslation.com translation of a passage in http://www.chemie.fu-berlin.de/fb/fb96/fb-24.html gives:

"In fig. 4a, scnd urine, an Alkaloid is represented out of the leaves of a south east Asian shrub plant. It has an effect similar, however less toxic to the Strychnin on the headquarters nerve system and is used in the Vietnamese people medicine as a Psychopharmakon."
