joebloggs Posted March 11, 2008 Hi Guys, I have been walking around for a little while near me and seek to identify this particular tree. I apologise if I've failed in my attempts to actually provide photos that aid identification but I am very much a newbie. I'm guessing that the absence of seed pods means it will be virtually impossible to ID, I'm wondering whether anybody could at least put forth possibilities. It would be nice if this were something good as there is more than enough bark on the floor. Thanks for looking.

rahli Posted March 15, 2008 (edited) Looks like it might be found somewhere within the Juliflorae section of Acacia, but I wouldn't have a clue what section of Australia it comes from. Edited March 15, 2008 by rahli

volcanicplug Posted March 16, 2008 Hey, looks to me like a golden flowered salwood otherwise known as Acacia aulacocarpa or its very close relative Acacia disparimma . I have recently identified stands of this species near my home in SE QLD which are also in flower at the moment. Hope this helps.

joebloggs Posted March 18, 2008 Here is some info on Acacia aulacocarpa. Yep, I'd read that. Not really conclusive to the question of bark alkaloid, though.
