XipeTotec Posted November 18, 2007 Hi, there is another thread at the moment with something similar, but more extreme, some say it could be frost.... but I dont think this is, as it is less than a week old, and defiantly no frost. I have had a problem with slugs in the garden lately.... but no other cacti have been this damage... only this one. here are some pics.... also... due to damage when I bought it... this specimen has formed 2 distinctive heads, I dont know if this is unusual... but if it is... id be happy to sell it... as I am po'. so feel free to make an offer. occidentalis Posted November 18, 2007 The first one looks like snail or slug damage. The second one is interesting, never seen that before.
shruman Posted November 18, 2007 Fuckin wicked cactus! Thats just a weird thing some columnars do occasionaly where the meristem splits in 2 & u have two new tips, it is pretty rare I have only seen a`few pics of it. Looks like slug/snail/caterpiller damage to me, I have a fair bit of that in my garden at the mo & deffinitely looks different to frost damaged tips I have. Looks more pach to me those spines look to long for scop, maybe cordobensis but it dosnt look it They are all pics of the same cactus, right? I wanna see pics of her in a year. XipeTotec Posted November 18, 2007 (edited) yeah, all same cacti, id say defiantly scop. When younger... they often have more pronounced spines. Also, the macro on cam tends to make smaller details alot more pronounced than what the human eye usually notices. incognito Posted November 18, 2007 that 3rd one is cool as!!!! id be wishing on a crestate scop. now that would be darn impressive!! imagine that massive crest!!
bit Posted November 19, 2007 In a small garden I have planted scop, 3x pach, and 1x unknown trich. guess which ones the slugs like? Only the scop. Has identical scarring to yours. Good news is they only like the new flesh, and slug bait has dealt to the bastards. Your last pic looks like it has had meristem damge, and somehow split from there.
