nabraxas Posted June 14, 2007 Qat is s a flowering plant native to tropical East Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. It contains the alkaloid cathinone, an amphetamine like stimulant which causes excitement, euphoria and mild hallucination. The leaf is traditionally chewed to release its intoxicating effects. In Yemen qat is extremely popular - 60% of the males and 35% of the females are regular users who chew daily for long periods of their life. Although banned in many countries, qat is not a controlled substance in the United Kingdom. Witness explores the use of qat by the Yemeni population in Sheffield, North England. first part: second part:

planthelper Posted June 16, 2007 (edited) yes, i have seen it around here in the uk, compromising of the red variety (stem tips). but anyway, many years ago i saw some tv footage about a cartell (containing police and quarantine people) importing it into australia. seems to me like they turn a blind eye for some people. more info about this can be found in an old post of mine, some 8 years ago. i think to remeber one of the guys's name was police inspector (!?) fitzpatrick.
