Auxin Posted September 13, 2006 Lately I've been harvesting ashwagandha berries for the seed but I cant find efficient methods for cleaning the seed For the first few dozen I just squeezed the berries and the seed popped out, I then washed them and dried them. But thats too hellishly time consuming for larger amounts of berries. Next I mashed up ~100 and experimented with screens and just trying to get the berry skins to float so I can pour em off, it sped it up but is still messy and inefficient (the berry skins usually split into 2 parts, making a seed trap). Next year I'm gonna be growing even more plants that produce little berries so I gotta ask- anyone have tricks to quickly and easily extract seeds from small berries? dc Posted September 13, 2006 I let the berry dry out if the seed will stay viable
Auxin Posted September 13, 2006 after being covered in berry mush for half an hour I considered that but I send alot of seed over borders and The Man hates seed with 'organic contaminants' going over borders... not to mention the issues of dormins and, once the seed are planted, mold.
